Ive had ROF from the very beginning and own all the planes. Once in a while I get lured away by another sim. Sometimes for a few weeks. However, I always come back to ROF. I haven't put my finger on it. The graphics, the gameplay, But something about it just lures me back. Now that the career mode is soon in sight, I dont see myself playing much else. Ill still support other games. (just bought COD tonight and DCS A10 a few months ago as a beta) A10 is fantastic and COD has issues right now, but will at some point, be a great sim too. But ROF has a lot going for it and most of which is because of the great support from the developers. They listen to the community and address the issues, keeping ROF always moving in the direction we want to see it go.

Sorry to sound like a fanboi, but I gotta call it like I see it.

Rob

Does it matter if you are called a "fanboi" or a "nay sayer" it`s the appreciation of the game and what the developers do are the main things.I think ROF is fantastic but I am blwdy useless at dogfighting and I think COD will be amazing when it gets patched and sorted. It`s unbeleivable that so few can pick so many arguments compared to the rest of the gaming fraternity. We are a very small community in the big picture of the gaming world and we all know how demanding we are and what we expect and how disappointed we feel when the release does not live up to our expectations.
Come on guys ,support the developers and carry on flying !

True.

I was at the War Memorial the other day, watching a 10 minute film of WWI air combat (think Peter Jackson was involved) and I couldn't stop noticing how much it looked and sounded like RoF.

I am totally in love with ROF. I speak with experience when I say it's the closest thing you can get to real bi plane flying. I've bought the lot except the twin engined buses and I'm seriously considering them. I have spread the word to anyone who will listen so I suppose I could be called an enthusiast. Even given my old Logitech 3d pro to a friend to drag him in a bit more.

I have had it since release, and its always been fun..I did go through a period where after a patch I kept suffering from stutters...but that got fixed with a patch afterwards...and now I have a better system than when I first played. Everything is maxed out and runs flawlessly...it really is a superb game and the team have done such a good job

New convert here, but totally hooked. I like OFF very much, and appreciate the hard work those guys do, but the limitations of the engine they have to work with really limit their potential. ROF is amazing now and its potential is unlimited.

I agree with Scoobe..there is something that just keeps me coming back to this game. Its one of my favorite games ive ever played and ive been simming since microsoft flight sim version 1. I have owned almost every combat flight sim and civilian flight sim since the 1980s and ROF is one of the most spectacular.

I remember my first time up in the SPAD in the training missions. I couldn't believe how well the sense of flight was nailed by Neoqb. The game was light on content back at launch, but the stuff that really mattered as a foundation to be built upon; graphics, flight model, damage model, sound effects, clouds and atmosphere, attention to detail of the planes and cockpits, was over the top.

Outside of content ( which hopefully will continue to be added ) there is no other WW1 combat flight sim that can hold a candle to it, RoF eclipses them all, totally.

You guys have got to stop this...you're killing me. Smile2 I'm waiting for a new build computer. When I was setting up the specs on it, I wanted to make sure I could play this game in all its glory. I actually bought the Rise of Flight-Iron Cross Edition a couple of weeks ago. I cannot wait to install and try it...please stop making the wait harder with all your post of how wonderful it is. biggrin

@ enigma, what were you running before that you can't play it now? From my experience it is very scalable, and while you can't necessarily max it out, you can still enjoy it for now...

Never got into the training missions, maybe part way into #2... Can't stand seeing big circles in the sky...

Enigma, the effect ROF had on me was to go out straight away and get the latest and greatest computer possible. I know nothing about computers but found a Chinese gentleman at a local store who was a games buff. He downloaded the demo and worked out what I wanted. That computer,Tr5 (essential to my mind) and a g940 system set me back a little but I've never regretted a cent of the cost.

I so agree with Rob. What a beautiful game! I love it. Its such a joy to fly around with those aircraft. Have the sim now for just two days. Have some problems now and then with landing lol. Love the aircraft models, the sounds, all the extra skins people make. Just awesome. thumbsup

Cheers!

Very pretty game. I have had it for almost a week now and just been flying the training missions. They look very nice, but what blew me away was flying a few random quick missions with more clouds on, changing the time to early morning, increasing wind and turbulence...and I was blown away.

I love the feeling of flight you get in this sim. Sputtering little WW1 engine, rush of the wind, the way the plane creaks and sways in the wind, it's great!

Only thing that stinks is I'm a horrible shot and I'm having trouble shooting down planes.

Well, the latest and greatest is yesterday's tears unless money grows on trees for you. I agree it is an inspiring WWI sim, but telling someone they need "the latest and greatest" to enjoy it is untrue. Reality check required.

@kestrel, get close, REAL close and fire short bursts unless he is filling the iron sites. In WWI sims aim for meat and metal. Crude but effective.

Bandy, I did not tell anyone to go and buy the latest and greatest. I said I did. That was because I did not think my ancient computer could cope. Someone with more knowledge than I possess (that's not too hard) could probably manage-- I couldn't.
Wicked I could go into detail about landing these crates but the basic is simple. Keep the machine flying all the way down to touchdown. One thing to remember about flying is that stick controls speed and engine controls height. When landing the Camel I do not use instruments, I throttle back and use attitude. As I near the ground, I use the gunsight as my reference, keeping it level with the horizon. As you feel the stick losing authority bring it back slowly. You are still trying to stop the plane landing. A bounce is an indication that speed had not been entirely lost or that you have rounded out too high. The small amount of engine you have maintained is to counter any possible ground loop. As I said this is a very simple explanation but it will suffice for the moment. Requiem has a good Youtube offering on landing. :tune
One practice manoevre that might be worth trying is to try to fly the plane just above the ground. It was a useful exercise to me when I was learning. It's difficult at first but you quickly become aware of where the ground is in relation to the plane.

Me too is horrible with the shooting. Got the ICE game gamersgate and never regret it.

Now i need those cannon and guns from the Spit or 109. I can't shoot things with the current pea shooter! LOL

IL2 is still by far the best WW2 Flight Sim. Period.

Hi Bandy,

I've never run ROF. The current computer I have was purchased in 2003. I believe I didn't even make minimum requirements with it. I'm still waiting for my new computer to arrive which is a beast of a machine.

The computer I've purchased has set me back a bit as well but I needed a new computer to begin with. Current computer was purchased back in 2003. I've had the new computer custom built for my gaming and personal-business needs. I'm fairly excited that I'll finally be able to play ROF and a few other sims I couldn't with my old computer. It is gonna be a great year. I'm only waiting for it to ship. Should be any day now.
