Introducing Take On Helicopters by Bohemia Interactive

http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=116841

Placebo:

Hello everyone, we're excited to announce a new project in development - Take On Helicopters.

The brand new helicopter game from Bohemia Interactive. Take On Helicopters immerses players within beautifully rich landscapes and an authentic flight model.

Harry Larkin's aviation business has fallen on tough times. Built up over decades, it's now only days away from closure. His sons face an uncertain future, struggling to save the company their father spent his whole life building. Together, they must take on contracts and competitors; together, they take on helicopters!

High fidelity flight dynamics modelling
Richly modelled helicopters & cockpits
Expansive & detailed environments
Powerful & intuitive mission editor
Multiplayer in co-op & competitive scenarios

Take your first steps towards mastering rotor-wing flight across a massive range of enjoyable challenges, or create your own missions using the powerful easy-to-use mission editor.
Take to the air above two beautifully rich and expansive environments, based upon real-world North American and South Asian terrain-data.
Take on cutting-edge technology, helicopters modelled in stunning detail, a large-scale, open-world sandbox and authentic flight dynamics...
Take On Helicopters!

Heres a bullet-point break-down of the stuff you care about, gently filtered from the press release:

Bohemia is billing this as an accessible yet very authentic helicopter game.

Expect fidelity, but not full-on, switch-flipping, hardcore simulation along the lines of DCS.

Youll fly in two environments; one North American and one South Asian. Both of these terrain models will be based on real-world data.

TOH will include a sandbox single-player campaign.

Theres a mission editor. Its powerful and easy-to-use. (Hopefully thatll mean less-complex scripting than ArmA 2.)

Theres multiplayer: competitive and [excited man-squeal] co-op. No word on the max number of pilots, or if any secondary roles are playable.

Realistic elements: accurate fuel and electrics simulation and dynamic time and weather will affect the flight model.

Detailed tutorials are planned; Bohemia says TOH will cater to new players and enthusiasts alike. Hmm.

Itll be out during Q4 of 2011. The price hasnt been announced yet.

I've been following the developments, and my guess is BIS will be opening a new North American studio in Seattle. I think folks expecting a new expansion or DLC - at least in the near term - are going to be sorely disappointed

During an interview they said they were going to delve deeper into their animal kingdom, with FARMA. Hilarious

Looks really promising. My favorite part of Arma is the helicopters; sometimes I'll spend hours just flying aimlessly around Chernarus, lol...

Well we're still in 31 of March, so if this is an April fool's joke, it would be the first time (at least as far as I know) that such pranck wouldn't happen in the 1st of April - But who knows??

If this is true, that would be great news (some sort of a "new gen" Search and Rescue) but honestly I would prefer a military helicopter sim where you could shoot something at or being shot at by something...

Well, and they even have the "official website" here:

I don't think it's a joke... and there is really a market for the SAR series kind of game>

Seriously, just to imagine TAKE ON beautiful graphics with SAR 4 gameplay... and I'm in Heaven!

And as a cherry on the cake, if they give to ARMA 3 a full physics engine for helo and aircraft, it's even better!

ArmA3?? Never heard anything about ArmA3. They stated there would be NO ArmA3, has this changed?

As a real helicopter pilot, this game/sim is not looking too good. Not giving me the warm and fuzzies.

If this is legit, then I'll follow the progress since nearly any flight sim interests me.

I refuse to buy a flight sim that I have no interest in playing, on the off chance that MAYBE someday they'll make the one I really want to play.

As I posted in one of the other threads about this (um, I guess the title falls under Civ AV sims?), there has been news floating about since the 28th or so. Also, there was an april fools "take on helicopters:zombie" video, so I think the title itself is legit.

Plus, the title "arma" never made sense to me either.

They could call it mud for all I care though. We need a modern Heli sim, not that I'd be any good at it rolleyes

I think this is awesome news. I do not understand how sim fans can not be interested in this.

Hehe, the best part of that "DLC" website is the one that says:

Quote:
A free beta version of Arma 4 (note: requires always-on connection)

"Suck it on" UBIsoft and ALL other companies that use similar protection schemes!! This alone makes me a complete supporter of BIS and their products (such as ArmA like I already am a long time ago and the upcoming "Take On Helicopters")

Actually, Arma in greek means chariot/tank.

Of course I'm not sure they knew that when they named it Arma, which is an abbreviation of Armed Assault.

Very interested.
Suspect the suspect FM and control of Arma choppers will lead to some resistence, and the game itself will be more a game than a sim (no bad thing of course) but definitely on my list. Gonna give ARMA 2 another try...
Cheers,
Keith

ARMA was mainly choosen as it means weapon (along some other means) in latin and many other languages (and it's short smile )

There is complete devblog entry about the name story
