I'm about to build a new PC, my old Core2Duo is slowly reaching the end of his (gaming) life.

So far I've thought about the following:

Intel® Core™ i5-2500K+Scythe Mugen 2 Rev.B CPU cooler
Cooler Master Silent Pro M600 W PSU
ASRock P67 Pro3 mainboard
Corsair DIMM 8 GB DDR3-1333 Kit
Antex Three Hundred Midi Tower
Samsung 1000 Gig HD
DVD Burner

And I'd use my current GTX470 with it. System doesn't need to be the ultimate gaming machine, just letting me enjoy stuff for the next 2-3 years.

Comments?

Looks fine to me. Any reason for ASRock over ASUS or Gigabyte mobo?

I assume the memory is a 2x4Gb kit.

Not really. It's just that I've had positive experiences with ASRock boards in the past, the one I chose got good reviews and overall seems a good bang for the buck.

Yep.

On saturday I also came to the conclusion it would be time for an upgrade. burnout
I have a similar setup to yours, so I'll give my 0.02€.

I'll make an assumption: You're buying the K model because you want to overclock?
If so, I would recommend EKL Alpenföhn Matterhorn as processor cooler, as it's giving you better cooling performance for a reasonable price tag.
If not, get the cheaper 2500 model.

MoBo and PSU have a good price/preformance rating.

And atm there's no need to change the graphics card.

So all in all a nice build.

Oh and by the way, it's Antec ;-)

Yup, according to all sources the 2500k easily runs stable OC'ed to 4 GHZ, looks like the best thing for sims right now.

I'll take a look at the Alpenföhn cooler, thanks for the comments.

Mine runs at 4.3 stable with the Matterhorn cooler. ;-)

But in general OC results also depend on which mobo you're using. Also take into account that when OC'ing the power consumption rises.
If you want to go higher than 4 GHz, I would think about a more powerful PSU.

Have fun with your new toy :-)

600 W PSU is borderline these days.

@speedbump: Efficiency is much more important than raw Watt number. According to my research the Coolermaster 600 should be more than enough for that system.

@warmaker: 4 GHZ should be more than enough ATM. Hey, I'm using a Core2Duo with 2.66 GHZ right now... wink

looks good to this AMD/ATI fan.

Note: I run the system below (Crossfire, OC CPU, 16GB RAM, lots of hard drives) with 650W PSU (with power to spare even at 100% CPU & GPU -- based on my power measurements).

Sapphire Pulse RX7900XTX, 3 monitors = 23P (1080p) + SAMSUNG 32" Odyssey Neo G7 1000R curve (4K/2160p) + 23P (1080p), AMD R9-7950X (ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 420), 64GB RAM@6.0GHz, Gigabyte X670E AORUS MASTER MB, (4x M.2 SSD + 2xSSD + 2xHD) = ~52TB storage, EVGA 1600W PSU, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Full Tower, ASUS RT-AX89X 6000Mbps WiFi router, VKB Gladiator WW2 Stick, Pedals, G.Skill RGB KB, AORUS Thunder M7 Mouse, W11 Pro

Hi,

I`ve just built my new system a few weeks ago.

I have the CoolerMaster Centurion 5 II case, good and good looking for not too much bucks. As the CPU cooler I chose the Thermalright Archon. I`m still amazed how silent the system is even under load, on idle it`s barely noticeable (i7 2600k).

Just for the fun of it, how about one SSD for the OS?

It`s great fun seeing Win7 64 booting to login at around 18 seconds.

Finally got all the parts and build my new system.

Decided to go for a Gigabyte mainboard, other than that it's the stuff I posted earlier.

System runs fine, CPU runs stable at 4GHz with a max temperature under full load of 50°C, and is very quiet.

Me happy. Very happy.

biggrin
