Seems like someone has been telling some porkies about the amount of dancing one did in a movie that earnt them an Oscar. Firstly there was this; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4n71sjmd-bM&feature=player_embeddedSome absolutely outstanding special effects I may add...BUT...apparently there was an earlier version that showed someone else doing the dancing and then using the power of the gods, Portmans face was superimposed on the dancers body. the thing is this...Portman doesnt look like a dancer. She doesnt look toned enough to pass herself off as a hard core ballet dancer and now its all coming out. She may have done as little as 5% of the dancing in the movie she got an Oscar for? http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2011/03/26/natalie-portmans-black-swan-dance-double-says-she-deserves-more-credit/ Anyway, makes for a good story. Mailman Isn't that why they call them actors?

Mailman Isn't that why they call them actors? I think the issue is that she and the studio "acted" as if she did a whole lot more.

From iDMB Natalie Portman drew on her ballet training from ages 4-13 for the role. She resumed ballet training a year before principal filming began. She trained with Mary Helen Bowers (formerly of the New York City Ballet) and the regimen included fifteen minutes of toe exercises (for her to be on point for dance scenes), substantial muscle toning, and swimming a mile a day. -- IMDb Trivia: Black Swan (2010) She did more than most actors do, that's all I ever heard. The site also said she lost 20 lbs for the role, I'm not sure if you saw it but I did and she looked great.

Nothing wrong with publicity, good or bad There's an unwritten rule in Hollywood that it is infinitely better to have bad publicity than NO publicity. The death of any celebrity is apathy by the public.

People doubted Daniel Craig could pull off being James Bond, but he's a great actor and the most realistic Bond ever. That's what actors do...they act.

Dancing or no dancing, the award was well deserved and there was no contest in the category IMHO.

Haven't followed Hollywood or this film, but don't they also give music awards to singers who have been "retouched"? To songs and albums with "sequencer" performances?

The dancing she was supposed to have done was also part of the reason she got the oscar.
She may have lost 20lb for the role BUT she didnt have the muscle tone of a dancer.
Aaaaaanyway, I thought the video itself was amazing. The things they can do with special effects these days is astonishing. Anyone remember when Bruce Lee's son died filming some movie of his and they special effected him in to finish the movie. There was a lot of positive noise about that but they stuff being done today is worlds apart, even from a couple years ago.
Regards
Mailman Eh? That's like saying De Niro gets an Oscar in The Godfather for actually being a gangster.

The most realistic Bond in which way? He's nothing like the Bond in Fleming's novels. I haven't read any of the Fleming novels but I thought the Bond portrayed in the books was supposed to be a darker, meaner, tougher version? Timothy Dalton played Bond that way as well but movie audiences at the time were still used to Roger Moore's more light-hearted portrayal so Dalton's films were poorly received.
