From http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3245385/More_Breaking_News.html (but I thought it deserved a thread with mention of the planes in the title)

Fingers crossed for a Zeppelin straaken at some point. The one that looks like school bus with wings on. Cockpit looks like a school bus too.

I said it elsewhere, I'm not too excited about the Snipe (though I'll get it, make no mistake) but the others are certainly anticipated eagerly. The Harry Tate, with its big nasty straight pipes, especially gets my mind racing!

Agree with K-Style, The Zeppelin-Staaken would be a winner for me too. Dang thing's just too ugly NOT to want it...the R.VI's nose reminds me of the Blohm und Voss BV-138, the aquatic warthog from hell, another very very ugly plane I've always liked biggrin

Love. You can know all the math in the 'Verse, but take a boat in the air you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she oughtta fall down, tells ya she's hurtin' 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

RE8 and CL.II are great additions to fill out coming the career mode.... whoohoo

...and with my admiration for the BrisFit - I'm super glad we'll see two variants of it!! woot

But I suspect the Snipe will see just as much action as the current Fokker D8 does now. duh

...but a cool addition none the less. biggrin

...and of course two variants of the Spad VII will give those uber D.IIs a run for their money! That's nice. duel

Looking forward to another great year of R.O.F! thumbsup

The inclusion of the RE.8. refutes those who've said that 777 Studios will not make crap planes because no-one will buy them. Great that we will get the workhorse of the RFC. And I'm sure it will sell well, because it was so ubiquitous in the war.

Oh, and as for the Staaken. Hmmmm, a huge job of modelling... - I doubt we will see it.

I'd rather have a Zeppelin, full stop! biggrin

Its great that we're getting 2 versions of the Biff and Spad 7, the versions should perform quite differently. We can have the correct planes in career mode rather than something that's just similar. Like the Aldis, we asked for the RE8 and 777 have come up with the goods smile

As far as 1916 planes go I think it makes sense to at least provide the basics for 1917-18 first. With the Biff, RE8, DFW C and CL class there'll be a decent basic plane set for 1917-18 historical missions. Once those are done then the BE2C, Strutter, Albatros C and Caudron G would do the same for 1916.

Everything else would really be gravy smile

Really an amazing plane set that is being fleshed out, and all to a very high standard. I think the poor chaps who fly fighters will be in for a bit of a surprise against reasonably fast two-seaters with a human-controlled sting in their tail. Auch.

Wishing I was in the La Cloche
Really looking forward to the SPAD VII. Other offerings sound great as well.
Not so much interested in the Snipe (just as I was not in the Fokker DVIII, but picked it up anyways...)
Would LOVE to see a Halberstadt DII, that would fill a much-needed "early" slot for Central. ALSO early 2-seater much needed...

NOW RE: the Brisfit, I'm thinking it has the potential to really dominate the game, and not in a good way. Historically most German pilots simply avoided them. If the FM is even slightly overdone, it will drastically upset the game balance.

Staaken? Just can't get into the flight boots of those who are interested in it, though can appreciate their ardor. I think it will draw too much developer resources away from other areas where currently needed.

Agreed, a much better choice than the Snipe. Then again, maybe the team already has a head-start with some old modeling stuff on the Snipe from the early days...

Agreed. Like the HP or Gotha...more of a novelty than a requirement in my opinion.

Agreed on halb DII rather than snipe, would fill the gap for tounaments and such. Plenty of late war birds as is and snipe was just active last 2 months of the war I think. And more early 2 seaters, with a lot of 2seaters think fo the tounaments we could make... HAwt!!! Ohhh nelly!!

I was hoping for an F.B.2 - but it is still wonderful, even without one.

I just wish I could pre-order now!

I am really looking forward to the Snipe and to the Spad 7.

Instead of complaining about SPAD 7s, Central pilots should capture and fly them too. I suggest putting an apple in the middle of your Aerodrome field and just wait. Eventually a SPAD 7 will come by to get the apple, cause SPADS can't resist apples. This is how the Entente gets a hold of SPAD 7s, m-kay?

The Biffs a big plane so not ideally suited to a low alt furball, irc the RAF mostly kept them out of low altitude trench attacking as they tended to get chewed up by small arms fire. Smaller more nimble planes like the Camel had a better chance at surviving low down over the frontline.

I think it'll be manoeuvrable for a 2 seater but you aren't going to be able to compete with the single seaters in a sustained turn, Its quite fast and heavy so it'll be a great BNZ aircraft. I'm expecting a faster more powerful version of the DFW CV.

The Central CLs should be interesting in multiplayer though. Slow but they were 2 seaters specifically designed for ground attack and treetop furballing.

OH I agree, BUT they'll have that sting in their tail to make up for it.

Then the issue is, as I see it, will G-force effects on the rear gunner be modelled??? AFAIK, no sim has done so. I've gotten into 'debates' with others over whether WWI A/C could generate enough G's to affect the rear gunner -- I think they could, and so do some respected aviation history authors.

What do you think?

I'm sure aim would be thrown off slightly in a lot of situations. It would be nice to see more effect from airflow (ie. slowing the turning of the gun) or some type of vibration when using the 'gunsight' view. I agree that it feels a little bit too easy (compared to the difficulties with the fixed forward firing guns).

Yes, Halberstad CLs were famous for their manouverability. They could turn fight with entente planes succesfully.

You can get used to everything, but icicle in the a**. It melts before you get used to it.
