From 'smokey' on the banana forum - I hadn't seen this one yet:

'Nothing was taken from IL2'

Ubisoft in 'really good video' marketing shocker!

The game looks wonderful to me!

OK, I feel dirty reading this thread, dirty like I'm watching porn. I'm sitting here, alone, in front of my computer, watching videos of Russian guys playing the sim, and it's giving me a sim boner. Somehow, unconsciously, my hand is slowly starting to drift towards my stick (the Saitek one), and it's stroking it gently, but no, I won't get to use it, not tonight, not with this sim, and I can't get the thought out of my head that some other dude is hitting that, so I just keep stroking that stick (still talking about the Saitek), thinking of how awesome it'll be when this sim's installed and running on my computer, and keep stroking again until the itch disappears. Am-I crazy ?

Looks like the last days of the wait are going to be the hardest...

Cheers

Nico

PS : I couldn't help but notice the feedback we've been getting so far, either from the vids or written descritpions of the manual, all seem to debunk most of the Haters' (I trust you'll recognize yourselves) most pessimistic theories and darkest prophecies. I kind of like that. It's like they're getting a good hard spanking from the sim and Oleg, because they've been naughty, naughty trolls. Oh damn, here I go again...

It's obvious WOP is better. I can't believe all the problems COD is having. Flying through trees?

Makes sense, the low detail vid shows no trees. A person running high details would be at a disadvantage online if they could be damaged by trees.

I'm really disappointed with what I'm seeing so far. It's IL-2 with less planes and maybe a better flight/damage model.

I am genuinely wondering wether you were trying to be ironic with these comment or not. I seriously hope you were. In case you weren't, may I suggest you scroll a little back and actually read the posts. Be sure not to miss the part when they specifically mention turning the realism options off.

Cheers

Nico

Alright, I don't have any combat flight sims installed on my system right now. Happy ? It's been months since I've played Il-2, I don't own RoF or DCS A-10, and the closest I've been to actually simflying a WW2 combat airplane for the last couple of months was doing stunts with the CS 727 in FSX. Thank you for exposing me for the miserable sim-deprived wreck that I am. I'll probably die playing FPS. At least I haven't turned perv. HAWX or WoP are off limits, it's just... disgusting.

Simloneliness is not funny you know ?

Cheers

Nico

Stop the clock - STOP THE CLOCK!

I've recorded the first 'It's obvious WOP is better' at exactly 15 hours and 18 minutes after the COD Russian release.

I'll be going through the entries of 'Who Can Guess The Amount of Time Someone Will Say This' competition now and will inform the winner via this board. Good luck to you all. Congratulation to the lucky winner - your lifetime supply of lemons will be a fantastic prize.

Thanks for playing all!

When CoD is loaded onto a decent rig and the equivalent of a 'Black Death' track is played and a FRAPS benchmark taken (not a performance reducing recording), then we'll know where we stand performance wise.

It looks great, it is/will be the full simulation experience. If the framerate is acceptable then we'll have a winner. What we call acceptable is open to debate. We will know very soon.

WoP (as much as I like and defend it) won't be better than CoD. No QMB/FMB, lacking multi-player customisations, ded-servers etc. It might outperform CoD with it's optimizations and look better in some areas though. WoP 2 could be potentially better :ducks:

Definately! FRAPs can take from a third to a half off of the frame rate IL-2 runs at, depending on resolution.

Indeed, most "cinematic" IL-2 films are made at half speed (both sim and FRAPS) and then doubled in compiling it to compensate for it, as it allows the computer to keep up.

I must have a tin ear; the sounds aren't at all bad, IMHO.

That was my fault - I added the vid here when I should have created a new thread without attribution smile

Thanks - that plus the new Dev diary video are really making crazy in anticipation now.

the CoD manual explains to save framerate you can minimice the amount of trees. So, they have no collision modell. Would be strange online if some people with more trees would crash biggrin
