As posted before: Capturing with Fraps eats FPS like crazy. Plus: Usually Fraps is set to capture at a specific framerate. I used around 30 when I captured stuff back in the day, and once Fraps was "filming", the FPS counter would drop to ... 30 (or lower, if it was a HW-hungry game).
So I wouldn't deduce anything from the performance and/or FPS-counter in a captured video.
I remember capturing a video of a beta-version of Dark Messiah of M&M which was kinda choppy. Without Fraps the beta was smooth and playable, with Fraps on, not so much. Almost didn't get permission to publish the video, since the guys at Ubisoft were understandably worried it might send the wrong message.
The only way that I'm aware of to capture video without that FPS-hit would be to feed the video-/audio-signals directly to an external VCR. That's how it was done in the olden days, before stuff like Fraps existed.
God, still another week to wait and he's feeding us a 109 in RAF-markings ... argh!

System: Asus P5Q-E - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300@ 2.5 GHz (currently @3.0 GHz) - Gigabyte GF GTX460 1GB OC - 2x2 GB OCZ DDR2-RAM - Samsung P2370 23'' - MS Sidewinder 2 FF (red trigger, baby!) - Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals - TrackIR 5 + Pro-Clip - Windows Vista 64 Home Premium
Maximum. Just read the comments in the description of the videos.
So performance-wise, that's still OK imho. I have the same CPU and a GTX 460 and i didn't expect to run CloD at maximum settings. Can't run ROF at maximum settings either.
What's not OK though, are the IL2 '46 sounds. Atleast they only used those for the exterior view...
Thing is there is so many unknown. What are his ingame graphics settings? Is he usinf FRAPS or some other capture program like Playclaw? Is he recording while he is flying or records ingame demo and then takes the video with FRAPS? By looking at sukhoi forums there is few ppl who are having problems with install/prformance of the game but it's still early days and we will know when the masses in Russia install and test the game properly
External sounds seem to be from IL-2 IMO. The new in-cockpit-sounds are awesome though ... love the airframe moaning when he pulls out of that vertical dive...
Hmm.. seeing his system specs suddenly fills me with lots of hope for how my rig will run CoD ...

Some good info in there. Although according to their reports of FPS they all seem to be running FRAPs inadvertently too?
Steady men - it's early days. It could be a Quantum-like simulator, a Schrödinger's Spit, in that it's only when observed that FPS may struggle over land - try looking away and it gets faster.
There seems to be a day-0 performance patch via Steam on the Russian release - that'll put the cat among the pigeons for those wanting steamless SP?
If using FRAPS with the sole purpose of measuring FPS, there shouldn't be an impact in performance. It's when you use it to capture the audio/video that things get messy.
I do truly hope the sounds are better than '46 stock. I just installed HSFX 5 yesterday, and sounds are excellent... really shows the gap with stock.
Hopefully the sounds are as good as what the community is freely providing for '46. And if not, hopefully the HSFX team will be fixing it ASAP after release. ;-)
It's truly a pain that the NA release date is so far behind.
Hardware: Asus Sabertooth Z87 - Intel 4670K @ 4.4 - 16GB RAM - EVGA Titan - Old Asus 26" 19x12 LCD - bunch of drives.
It looks good for FPS to be honest given his rig and the fact he is using full detail and FRAPS to capture the video. The engine sounds are abysmal, straight from IL2 and just as crap.
Isn't there some sort of in game frame counter like in IL2?
Yes - it's the one in the top center, with avg, min, max listed after it. The FRAPS one is usually on the left with a 'digital' like font.
The debate is now that the video capture program (FRAPS) is impacting performance a lot, or that his settings are too high for his hardware (quad core @3.6, 6GB ram) or that this isn't the real release just yet and it's a RoF fan trolling. An ATI 4890 (*) is a pretty quick DX9 card, so it does look like the game for high settings will (until optimized through patches, with the rumor being a huge one is ready for today even etc) require quite a beefy setup to get playable.
Tomorrow's Oleg video update should really put all these questions to rest.
(*) If you are wondering how your card compares to the one in the video then this will help
I don't mind most of what I'm seeing. They are saying over in the Bannana forum that at midnight Ruskie time a 500mb patch will be released. Maybe some more optomizing and sounds.
I remember that when recording IL2 videos with FRAPS FPS would usually drop by about 30-50% on my system. I used to record at half speed to get better performance and then used a video editing program to double the speed again because of this. FRAPS does cause a performance hit, although it really depends on your system exactly how much.
