Thanks for the link. I love the smell of unleaded JP4 in the morning.

Ok, but which fuel will be in CH ,and whether it will be a special algorithm for calculating fuel consumption based on the quality? screwy

Well, I can't speak for the Rolls-Royce engines in the UK's Apaches, but the American Apaches' GE engines' primary fuel is JP-8, although JP-4 IS an alternate fuel (among others) authorized for use if necessary.

My post was mostly in jest, but just for the sake of thoroughness...

The youtube vid says it's at "Riddle" in Prescott. Commercial fuel vendors sell Jet A (which is JP8). The T700 can burn JP8 and JP5 (used on Navy bases and for shipboard ops). I can't speak for Apaches, but generally, no one uses JP4 (Jet B) because it has too low a flash point and can start to bubble in the fuel lines causing flameouts. These are generally frowned upon.

We were just kidding. Fuel is assumed to burn at around 500lbs an hour based on normal twin engine performance which gives you a bit over 4hrs of flight time without ferry tanks.

wherever I might be that day
Now I did see a little detail Rich about which I was wondering if you're going to add it...
The articulated rotor system and as in 7.30 in the vid, the IBIT it goes through before flight?

Are those the published numbers for the Apache? Wow. That's sipping the gas.

I could have sworn that it burned 800 pounds per hour, but maybe that was back in the JP4 days. And yes, the AH-64 used to burn JP4 (all U.S. Army aircraft did) until the early 1990's, when they transitioned over to JP8 like everyone else.

Burn rate could range anywhere from 500 to 1200+ pounds/hour depending on how much power you're pulling with the collective.

Granted, but 500#/hour is pretty damn low. I guess if it doesn't have anything onboard and is low on gas to begin with. I'd be interested to hear what Spike sees. I don't think I've ever seen anything less than 800#/hour in a (albeit heavier) -60, and that's pooping around at 70 knots for 3+ hours at altitude.

We can bump that curve up a bit, stores and crew weight are not part of the equation yet. It's the sort of thing that gets shaken out when we go to testing so I wouldn't sweat it too much.

700-900 is normal at cruise with a combat load. 1100-1200 is usually seen when hovering OGE. 500 would be on a cool day, low, over the water at max ENDR.

The FARP might need a little revamp.
