I cannot keep the Padlock view working when i am in the cockpit. It seems like it always works from the chase view which really does not help at all. What is the secret to success? I thought with the last two updates it was supposed to be corrected.

Same problem here. Setting it to pan view in the opening settings menu does zippo. Would really like to get this worked out.

Could you guys be a little more specific about the problem? My pan view works, but there is a number of reasons why yours might not.

Try pressing Left Shift + F1, this toggles between pan view and snap view. I had the same problem after the last update, before I was able to be able to pan view with the mouse and snap view with the joystick hat, now it is always on snap, regardless of settings. This is the only way I could have it work, hope it works for you.

Josh. my mistake.. It is Padlock I cannot keep working not panview.

got to game . select options, select controls, select camera controls, select enemy air padlock which is defAULT f8, set joystick button #5 to padlock, save as my joystick profile. Go to settings ,,padlock is checked.
go to quick combat,, set to 1 enemy. fly. see enemy, select padlock from cockpit,, works ok,, select chase view , padlock works, go back to cockpit ,now padlock does not work. Always the same results. Padlock from cockpit only works 0ccasionally.

Hmm. I really don't know. It could be anything. It might even be your joystick button starting to go bad. Have you tried binding padlock to a key on the keyboard and using that for a while? Try that and see if it works then. If not, then it probably isn't your joystick button.

My enemy air padlock works with F8 key just fine. If I keep pressing F8, it cycles through nearby enemies. To padlock friends, it's RShift+F8.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding something. Why do you go to chase view after padlock from cockpit? Are you trying to do external padlock? If you want to do a external view padlock, bind these keys to your joystick button:

F2+F8

I do have 0.1 seconds of delay programmed between those key presses or else it doesn't work. I think my joystick program "virtually" presses those keys too fast for ROF to keep up thus I have the delay programmed between them.

When padlock works, I sometimes get disoriented and jump to the chase fiew to see quickly how I am flying. Then I go back to the cockpit and lose the ability to use the padlock. If I go right back to the chase view and hit my padlock key on my controller it works ,but only in the chase view.

I just tested this and it all works fine for me. What keys are you using to do each action?

Padlock should be: F8
Chase view should be: F4
Back to cockpit view should be: F1 then Num 5

After that, if you want to padlock again, you have to press F8.

I have all of the above view programmed to buttons on my joystick.

*Ignore below if you don't have trackIR*

I have trackIR so my back to cockpit is a combo button on my G940: F1 then Num5 then F12

(F12 is default for trackir center view).

Same problem here, with the new update the padlocks wont work. Again, this is subsequent to the last update. Sometimes I can get F8 to work in some missions but generally not. Also the settings wont stay as they are set. I can't program the joystick. Things keep reverting to all boxes checked, ie Hud mode, identifiers or labels, and so forth; very annoying. I did a complete reinstall to try and get rid of it, but it makes no difference. It is something to do with the setup, clearly. I am running Win7 64bit, 4 gigs RAM, a intel core-duo with a separate sound card and an ATI 5750. Graphically and soundwise everything is more than fine. It is just the *padlock* controls that don't work, rendering the game virtually useless - I have no track IR. The padlocks need fixing.

Regarding this problem of the broken padlock views it seems to me that the developers have burdened themselves with a kind of unresolvable problem, in that at the same time as having to get this sim to play on every version of every kind of pc set-up, they are simulteneously pushing ahead with big changes on a month by month basis, changes which are only going to introduce new basic problems, like their last update has for me. If I could revert to the previous version I would be perfectly happy; but that isn't possible. My idea is that if we could check a box similar to the check mods box, so that those of us not interested in online play could use the version of the game that worked best on their setup, the developers wouldn't be under such a double pressure all the time. It is in fact such a joy to have the game changed every month or so, not in practice when things like this occur. So why not allow us to play the version of the game that best suits us? This is not an argument about having updates, so much as having no choice over them. I think it would be to the developer's advantage too if the option of 'opting out' were to be provided.

Just flew for an hour or so with the same results. As long as i do not go to chase view ,padlock works fine. If I go to chase ,then back to cockpit,, padlock does not work.

I have seen the padlock problem a couple of times (new to the game) but I am seeing it without ever switching to chase view...just cockpit to padlock and back. I guess due to the timing of my installation, I have never run the game prior to the latest patch.

Can we have a vote on not being tied to the developer's shirt tails?

This would not be an anti-patch vote, only a vote for the two things to work separately. Even Microsoft allows this.
