I now have CFS3 on order from ebay. all the updates. 3.-- 4.17 meg and 3.1-- acu 171kb and a nocd exe. and OFF on order from the developer.

What will be my best install proceedure?

1.. CFS3
2.. update 3.0
3.. update 3.1
4.. new nocd exe
5.. install OFF from cd

or should OFF be installed befor the new .exe is installed.

Q. Do I need to actually install CFS3 first?
A. Maybe..... if your CFS3 is older than v3.1 then yes. Basically during the install process the OFF BH&H installer will ask you to provide CFS3 so it can copy the CFS3 files it needs, and at this point you can provide the files required from either:

1) An installed CFS3

- OR -

2) Your original CFS3 disks

You can choose! However in either case OFF needs CFS3 version 3.1. So if your CFS3 CD/DVD is an old version it may be an early release CFS3 v3.0 - in this case you must use option 1) above and then patch that CFS3 install to CFS3 v3.1 before installing OFF.

From the FAQ on the OFF website .

There is also some additional information regarding your Q # 4 on that page. smile

I paid $59.99 plus shipping for OFF alone and I don't regret a penny...I've had my money back in entertainment five times over...

Glad to hesr that Wodin. Golf is a lot more expensive compared to a game like this that I will play for many hours. (I HOPE)

Hello,
when you install and run the original unchanged CFS3 for a short test, the version number should appear somewhere at the starting screen. If it is a later UBI CD it is most probably the 3.1 version.
Greetings,
Catfish

It is 3.1 and everything installed very easy including the superpatch and the minipatch. And of course I did not have to install the antiquated cfs3,, just put the dvd in when OFF asked for it.

After 12 hours or more and two full days i find this Game is not for me. I have unistalled it completely and am going to try to sell my CFS3 UBI DVD and the OFF disc.See my post in Buy/Sell, I purchased the game thinking it would be a little easier than ROF. Not only is it not easier but it does not run as smothly or as trouble free. I find among other things even with the graphics sliders set way back it still ctd's. Since i run ROF with no problems at all and it is much more detailed graphically.it must be the way the game is programmed.

Thanks for your reply.

Pawgy.

Well, your loss.

OFF, runs in my rig fine without any problems (CTDs, etc...) and for me, it's best WWI sim ever made!

I wouldn't do this. If I were you I would install CFS3 first and then install OFF. At least that's how I install OFF and again I have no problems at all with OFF...

I also would install CFS 3 first...you can then delete it if you want to...this is where your problem lies I reckon as very few have CTD's...

Maybe if i do not sell it i will reinstall trying a complete cfs3 install first. Right now It is off my computer completely and I am back to ROF which runs great and I enjoy very much. .

Again, Thanks for your interest and replies. It seems for the most part there are a good bunch of people following both ROF and OFF.

Pawgy, OFF runs well on my 2005 P4, while I can't run RoF at all. I would follow the advice given and persevere with this game as it's a good one. Worth searching for advice on graphic tweaks on the various forums; here, CombatAce and the OFF forum.

Whilst OFF runs fine for most people, as with all PC programs they can vary per PC and some people may need to configure more.

(One recent example for me, Dead Space 2 a super game well recommended smile.. but for me would't run at all (wierd graphics and controls) for a couple of days until I manually edited the settings file for it and unplugged all controllers then bingo, wonderful).

If you have issues there's extensive help in the FAQ too if you have problems. CFS3 and OFF makes use of the CPU a lot more than other programs too. if you are having problems it could be you have CPU green settings (power saving and other Intel throttling settings in BIOS enabled so try disabling, see FAQ for troubleshooting tips Q.25 for example.

Some examples,
http://overflandersfields.com/FAQ#Installation_and_settings
http://overflandersfields.com/FAQ#A25

Check our ATI or NVidia tips too
http://overflandersfields.com/Tips.htm

Other help in there too.

Hang in there Pawgy.
I just bought a new rig last week and I finally just reinstalled OFF P3 and it's running great. Actually it was quite easy even for a computer nube like me hahaha
1) Install CFS 3 and install patch 3.1a (I don't have the DVD version).
2) Fly any one mission in CFS 3, I use Free Flight. (don't mess with GFX settings or anything, just get in the air (or better yet start in the air) and fly about 2 seconds and exit the game.
3) Install OFF Phase 3
4) Install Superpatch and mini patch and your all set.
Just make sure to follow the install proceedures to the letter and you should have no problems. OFF P3 is very scalable to get it just the way you want it or what your system can handle.
Good Luck
cheers

Need help again I fear.
Got my OFF disc today.Installed and patched CFS3 TO 3.1.
Loaded OFF,all seemed to go well.Clicked on the icon, music plays,"opening page"page can bee seen, message says installation complete,I click on the little green arrow and everything goes black!
Music can still be heard and if I double click launcher icon, message comes up telling me that the game is running!
I have windows 7 and can run all other sims with no problems at high settings.
Can anyone advice me remembering that I am not as computer savvy as most of you.
Thank you.

Followed instructions in as many posts as I could.
No reference to my particular dilema i,e three seconds of opening title then nothing, only the music somewhere behind the Windows saver screen.

Is there a OFF team that can be contacted? Anyone think there might be a direct x problem here? I think that on my machine it may be direct x 11.

If anyone can help,thank you.
