Just following on from this thread here; http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3185084/1.htmlWhere you lovers of the inferior sport called Grid Iron got all p0wnaged etc ...do any of you actually play the sport on the weekend for a club? This is something that has always interested me, whether grid iron clubs exist that allows people to play at any level, sort of like how we have rugby, soccar, tiddlywinks clubs here in the motherland? I must say that about 12 years ago I was in the states visiting family and I asked them if they could hook me up to play a game of baseball with their local club. They just looked at me and thought I meant I wanted to go watch the professionals play! Anyway, do any of you play grid iron for locally organised clubs? Regards Mailman

I played American football growing up. Started out in little league at 9 years old. I played all the way through high school. I was pretty good. I played both ways, even in high school. In high school, on offense I played wide receiver in the pro set and when we went to the old T formation, I was the full back. On defense, I was right outside linebacker. I graduated in 78 so I am to old now. In my early 20's I played with people from work which was dumb because there were some stupid injuries where people got hurt and missed time at work.

Razor, Its dumb and boring becuase you dont have the intellect to understand it pal When I was over in Hawaii in August we watched some little kids practicing, doing some reps of running in to each other etc. Was quite funny, especially when the coach was barking "dont cry wahleeeee!" to some little 8 year old! Also speaking to the cuzzies in Hawaii they they take their kids to grid iron on Saturday morning and then to rugby practice in the afternoons. Besides Razor, if people in the UK* can find time for sport then I believe you Americans could also find time for sport. After all, if you are going to spend 5 hours watching grid iron on tv then you also have 5 hours to play the sport for real. Regards Mailman *I mention the UK because we** work the longest hours of all European countries. **When I say we its the royal we, which doesnt include me since I refuse to work past 5pm because 5:01pm is overtime country baby!

There are clubs, although they aren't as common as a lot of other sports due to the cost of the equipment involved. The school where I work doesn't have an official football team, usually the guys who played football in high school joined the rugby team (nationally competitive DII) until a coupe of years ago when someone finally got together and founded a football club. I also know there is a fire/police team in the area, and there used to be a semi-pro team and AFL2 team not too far away. So yes, they do exist, they just aren't that common.

Squirrels,
What sports can adults play in America that are organised along club lines? Soccer would be a good bet aye?

As others have said, your average Joe in the states stops playing football when he leaves high school.
Softball, a less athletic version of baseball, is played well in to the cardiac arrest years though.
You will find basketball courts everywhere, people play that well past high school.
Soccer is really growing in popularity and you see people playing that more and more but, most of the time, if you see adults playing it, they are typically immigrants.
Roller hockey is fairly popular as well
Football is really the only popular sport in America that I do not see played by older folks
I have gaming PCs that run everything from MS-DOS 6.22 to Windows 7 64-bit
