I have been loking at Ultimate TerrainX Europe and Ground EvironmentX Europe.

Both seem to be sold by Flight1.

Are they the same? And if not, which would you say is the best to go for? The photos of both look very good but I am edging towards the environment one.

Thanks smile

They are quite different products. UTX modifies the landclasses in FSX, making the layout of the terrain (cities, rivers, roads, hills) much more realistic.

GEX replaces the actual terrain textures.

I use both together and they work very well in combination. If I'd have to choose only one, I'd go for UTX since it's much more useful for actual flying and navigation than GEX, which is mere eye candy. Getting both is the best solution though.

Installed UTX last night and pretty impressed. A slight hit on frames but nothing serious.

It certainly looks loads better than the default and best viewed from around 1500+ feet with road traffic set at 40% for realism. Some obviously repeated tiles but nothing too distracting and the additional active roads are much better for a feeling of a living surface. You can also tweak just about everything in it but I found stock settings to be pefectly acceptable.

I would certainly recommend it.

Glad you like it. If you like VFR navigation than UTX is simply a must IMO.

yep

I bought the Europe version and will try and see how well my home town is replicated. I am not expecting total accuracy but hopefully it will be recognisable.

Nine Lives S!

See you live in shropshire. If you want accuracy for your home town do you not use VFR generation X scenery for UK?

Using that, I can see my house etc - almost as good as Google earth?

I did in FS9 and was very impressed. I tried a demo of the FSX version and it ran even better.

It was a choice between UK and all of Europe and flat detail against roads/buildings/trees etc and I went for the latter. I am not disppointed. URX does have a lot of repeated tiles but the extra roads/traffic and bridges etc make it a lot more realistic.

Another addd-on I have seen is FS Genesis, which is supposed to provide better elevation data for better higher resolution terrain. There is FSGlobal 2010 from Flight 1. Does anyone know which of these is the better product?
