I am bringing back to life a great gem from my closet: Silent Hunter 4

My new simulation workstation is ready to have this gem re-installed but need guidance. Which add-ons do the SH series fans recommend for SH4 and where can I download them. Any tips on how to install them is appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this post.

Respectfully,

THX-1138

Subsim is the place to download pretty much everything for SH4.

As for recommended mods, there is RFB, but of course I'm a bit biased in its favor. wink

I use Trigger Maru & Run Silent Run Deep Campaign mods.
The former is a "realism" mod, not so much in terms of 100% historical accuracy but rather striving for the experience of a sub captain, whilst the latter is a massive rewrite so that the movement of enemy merchants and major fleets conform to historic records.
They can be obtained from Subsim.

Trigger Maru is nice, but I would also vote for RFB+RSRDC.

Thank you all for the interesting suggestions. I have found the spot where all the SHIV mods are located:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=108964

But from what I gathered, there seems to be a v1.5 patch? But officially I only can see and/or get v1.4. Is the v1.5 patch legit, a fan made patch? If so, what does it improve or have in it? Where can I get it? Again, Thank you.

Respectfully,

IIRC the 1.5 patch is installed automatically with the expansion for SH IV (U-Boat Missions). There's no other way to patch the game to 1.5 I'm afraid.

You can find the SH IV expansion pack (U-Boat missions) on Amazon if you prefer the disk in hand. Or there is a digital download from direct2drive. I also just recently resurrected SH IV. Still trying to decide which mod to use... Enjoy

I used to own SH4 + expansion but ditched it in favour of SH5 (I know).
I gave SH4 to my cousin and he loves it so when I saw SH4 on offer on Steam I re-purchased it.

Not sure if I will ever go back to SH5.

OleGrayGhost,

Was not even aware of the SHIV U-Boat expansion pack! Thanks for the information. Also Direct2Drive seems to have may sims that are hard to find but how are the DRM on the downloaded games? Are they the same as the Disk versions or they add a special DRM to the downloaded content? The continued guidance is appreciated.

The DRM is no different than that found on the disk version of the game.

In a nutshell, RFB is more orinented towards 100% technical accuracy.

TM is more about accuracy of experiance.
