Oh god plz don't let the publisher be ubisoft. If they strap on this stupid DRM they did with SH, that's going to be a low blow.

I believe UBI changed the constant internet connection required for SH to just an initial internet connection to verify the copy.

I find it hard to believe combat flight sim enthusiasts would miss out on a benchmark sim that doesn't happen very much in this genre, because of a publisher.

Not hard at all. No one I know wants to contribute a dime to a horrible company like Ubisoft.

Bite off your nose to spite your face. wink We haven't had a decent combat flight sim since IL-2 which is getting old, and there isn't any coming online anytime soon.

I'll pass on Ubisoft. I would have bought SH5, even though I don't have much time to sim, except it's Ubisoft and their DRM sucks.

Wouldn't surprize me if it actually released sometime around Sept. 15 for Battle of Britain Day. Stuff like that makes publishers feel all warm and fuzzy inside...

As always, I'll believe it when I see it on the shelf.

I refuse to buy a flight sim that I have no interest in playing, on the off chance that MAYBE someday they'll make the one I really want to play.

I think UBI must have made them an offer they couldn't refuse, because most seem to think that 1c was very unhappy with ubi over the lack of support re Gruman/Northrop issues.

Maybe we just have a Spitfire Manual, because as I read here

http://www.gbase.ch/Global/news/IL-2---Cliffs-of-Dover%3a-Details/4992/47724.html

that solo campaign ist just playing on British side.

If need be we can buy the Russian version and create a GUI patch to bring it into English!

I don't see what everyone's problem is with ubisoft from what I know they have backed down from using securerom. But if you don't like them just get the game on steam.

Very disappointed with the title... well if that counts for anything.

SoW:BoB "from the makers of IL-2 Sturmovik" would have been just spot-on...

After they did that, they created a new DRM that requires a constant high-speed online connection. Initially, the game would discard all progress and quit if the connection was lost. The requirement of constantly going onto a server as well is a problem if the server goes offline, temporarily or for good. It also prevents anyone from ever truly "owning" a game, now it's being reduced to merely leasing one.

Not every Ubisoft PC game has this, RUSE is a notable exception. I just hope this one is too.

I love the convenience of steam. You can buy games in your underwear, and you never have to worry about putting a disk in the drive. I just think they should give us at least a small discount since you don't get in any of the media or packaging. I mean, you should be rewarded for helping the environment by avoiding all that excess trash, and the energy it took to make it, and dispose of it, right?

I believe Ubisoft recently dropped the constant online requirement for SH.

The name was announced at the Russian games convention so it's not new, but yes, it's IMHO a lame name "CoD" but can see why Ubi wanted to keep IL2 as a brand.
