I'm working in europe this week, and on the bus this morning I was leafing through the foreign language free newspaper and came to an article which I interpreted to be about a remake of Total Recall, and get this, with Colin Farrell as the lead character.
Has anybody else looked at some foreign text and translated it in such a ridiculous way?
When a man goes for virtual vacation memories of the planet Mars, an unexpected and harrowing series of events forces him to go to the planet for real, or does he?
Director: Len Wiseman Writers: Philip K. Dick (based on the novel by), Kurt Wimmer (screenplay) Stars:Colin Farrell
The film will start shooting in Toronto on May 15 this year.

I honestly don't know why they're wasting their time remaking this classic but I may rent the DVD just to see how it compares to the original. I mean really, Totall Recall is only 20 years old and they're already remaking it? Sheesh.

I cannot stand the remake culture. I can understand why studios do it, brand familiarity, blah blah, but it must surely be taking studio time and dollars away from more creative ventures. Lazy and pointless. Attention deficient nonsense from Hollywood, as PanzerMeyer says, 20 years! What's next? I dread to think.

The cast of the newly reimagined Star Wars by George Lucas for "today's" audiences,
Han Solo - Robert Pattinson Princess Leia - Kristen Stewart Luke Skywalker - Justin Beiber Obi Wan Kenobi - Ewan McGregor (he can now play the old Obi Wan!)
C3PO and R2D2 can be given those colorful "urban" personalities that the 2 Autobot twin cars had in Transformers 2.

No kidding, people still quote this movie. LOL Why remake something like this when there is SO MANY great sci fi books out there just waiting for a good movie to be made?
Maybe JAWS and StarWars should be remade, rebooted. You know, make the shark bigger and with CGI, jumping right clear of the water. Han Solo will shoot first, using a full-auto shotgun with laser sighting.
Then Close Encounters will be remade with Predators and Aliens fighting inside the saucer ship, Airwolf will be a secret variant of the JSF F-35, Raiders of the Lost Ark and the Mummy, Hill Street Blues...maybe a helping of E.T. and Short Circuit. We could retool WarGames to make our smart missiles the enemy. Get Shia The Beef to fly Firefox out of East China. Fifth Element could be retold as the 9th Element...and after all that we will FINALLY get our long-awaited feature length movies for Scarecrow and Mrs. King and BJ and the Bear!
I dunno about you guys, but I'm all remake'd out. If they can't come up with an original story, at least make it a sequel, and change the script significantly so it doesn't feel like Deja Vue to those of us who already saw it.

I don't know that this can be called a remake. It's more like the 2005 War of the Worlds. It wasn't a remake of the 1950s version, it was another adaptation of the original novel that did things differently. From what I understand, the short story and the 1990 film differed quite a bit, and it's not like there's only one way to adapt it. That said, it will inevitably be compared to that version for better or worse.
Likewise I think you won't see someone "remake" Blade Runner, but I can imagine someone else adapting "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" in a different way.

How did this thread go from being about Total Recall to horrible B movies?
