I have been flying the mission Prince of Darkness. Is there any way other than going into the relevent a/c Data Config file
and blocking via // the relevent entries for the position lights. It just doesn't look right with you blacked out and your wingman lit up like a CT
I think this applies to other night missions as well. This may have been covered in the past, but I havent found it.
PS.John,I am Still thinking about Rising Sun.

The other Owl missions were wingman missions wherein Owl was lighted for the bombers. That's what those lights were for. They might be dimmed somewhat to be more accurate. Let me take a look at the mission and see. Or, rather, I will ask Mike since he knows more about lighting stuff than anyone.

Thanks for the reply John. just incase he looks only at the Night owl, I should have said all the wingmen have their position lights on the whole time, on any of the night missions I believe. However It would be nice to have them go off having 'crossed the fence'as you do with your own aircraft.
I know all the missions are set in stone so light on/off wont change things, but it looks more realistic dont you think?

A normal night mission's lights for strike birds was configured so:

Lead: Bright and Steady
Wing: Bright and Flash

When entering a combat zone, all normal nav lights and beacons would go off. That would leave the problem of flying formation with no idea where the other airplane is. Thus, the "slimer" lights. They were not particularly visible from the ground. But during the period of these missions, not very many aircraft had them. LORAN equipped Night Owls would lead the strike birds into the target and call the drop...or you would drop when he did.

But his lights were on the whole time.

In the case of this mission, Lead would be running his lights. He didn't need to see his wingman if the wingman could see him. So, the lights are not necessary for flight in this case but as the Leader, they would be on.

Redtail1,

Far as the AI aircraft, the short answer is no. They are hardcoded to come on after dark per mission date/time.

Alternatives in addition to eliminating the light entries.
Make another plane without and give it another designation for night missions.
Start all your night missions in the air. The AI nav lights will be off.
