Oh well, sometimes you roll the dice and take your chances. This time I lost. Too bad because I rarely go to the movies anymore.

And no, I didn't go with grand expectations of an earth-shattering kaboom. It was just a mediocre movie.

On the upside, CGI humans are getting better.

Wasn't a fan of the original - but there is not much about at the Cinema at the moment over here so was hoping to catch this one - don't think I will bother now.

Saw a film called Monsters a few weeks back - imagine a roller coaster ride that never goes up or down zzzzzzzzz

49% at Rotten Tomatoes

That's not a good score.

I saw it last night in IMAX 3D and thought it was tremendous! I can't wait to see it again.

And honestly, I really can't understand why critics (and some people who said they were excited for this film) have panned it.

Is the story simple and straightforward? Yes it is. But just because the story is straightforward doesn't mean that it doesn't have something to say and that there isn't something bigger going on under the surface.

Massawyrm's first review at Aint it Cool is very good and speaks to these points better than I could here: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/47791

I personally think that anyone who hasn't seen the film, should. It's worth it.

And anyone who has seen the film and disliked it, I think they should give the film some reflection and try to see it again at some point in the future.

I think you'll find your criticism will soften as you take into account all of the things the film accomplishes.

Personally, I feel that Tron: Legacy will eventually go down as a landmark film, and not just for special effects.

But that's just my 2 cents.

I'm avoiding it as it's in 3D which adds nothing to films.

But it has an 81% audience rating which means that there is a big disconnect between what the critics think of the movie and what the general public thinks of it.

It adds at least 2 things.

1)A headache and dizziness for some.

2)An emptier wallet or purse for all.

I hated the first one, so I think I'll give this a miss.

Ok, here is my spoiler-free review. I just got back from seeing it in 3D.

I believe this film is suffering a bit from "The Phantom Menace" syndrome. What I mean specifically by that is that the hype and the public expectations for this film were in my opinion overstated. Let's look back at the original Tron and recall what it had and didn't have. While it was revolutionary for 1982 in its distinctive visuals, there really wasn't anything extraordinary with the acting, dialogue or characters. The new Tron film shares these same characteristics but unlike the original film this one had heaps of high expectations and hype and so it makes the new film seem worse by comparison.

This new Tron didn't really elicit any emotion from me but neither did the original Tron. It was great seeing Bruce Boxleitner again but I wish his role had been a bit larger.

And one final observation,

Click to reveal..

I'm sorry but I just dont get how Quorra (a computer program) can somehow end up existing in the flesh after going through the portal. I just dont see how the internal logic of the film could make that plausible.

I give Tron 2.5 out of 4 stars.

I would concur. This new film has pretty much the same quality of acting, writing and dialogue as the original. The only obvious improvement is the SFX.

Movie critics are the worst people to ever listen to..nothing like doing a review based on what you got paid to say.Nothing in those reviews are their own opinions it is the opinion of the person paying their salary that is in those reviews.

Hence why you should never use damn critics as a base for seeing any movie.

I usually value the reviews of fellow friends and people here on SimHQ over critics reviews when it comes to movies.

The fact that 90% of the movies I've never seen win these "artsy" awards is why I never listen to their reviews. I tend to see what people write here and will go if I like it.

I'm a big Mark Walberg fan so I want to go see The Fighter.

I had no interest in the first so there was no way I was going to see this for 10 times the price....

Good decision. I wouldn't recommend Tron Legacy to anyone who didn't like the original or if they had no interest in seeing it.
