Skinning the P-40B. Test mission over Kunming terrain (aka modified desert tiles)

We plan to put all the known tail and fuselage numbers on them. Not sure if we have the room on the mesh for the pilot's name and kills.

This one is Sandy Sandell

This is Scarsdale Jack Newkirk

This is Parker Dupouy

Those are unpainted Ki-21's

These last are of the 77th Sentai in Ki-27's (originally by wolf)

The AI does do this part well.

A hairball in which you are at a real disadvantage in your P-40B and had better start thinking about pointing it straight down...and soon.

Our references for Rising Sun are primarily:

The Rising Sun by John Toland.

Flying Tigers with permission from the author, Daniel Ford.

Soldiers of Fortune for Time/Life by Sterling Seagrave and conversations with the author.

Unlike Any Land You Know: The True Story of the Burma Bridge Busters by James Vesely.

Many other books

...and conversations with many of the participants in the US and Asia.

What books do you recommend?

There was one Polish pilot flying with Flying Tigers in China, Witold Urbanowicz. Very interesting person. He was also a leader of famous Polish 303 Squadron.

He also wrote a book ("Ogien nad Chinami" - "Fire over China") but I'm not sure if it was translated to English.

You guys are teasing...

Was Kunming a desert area? In the default SF desert terrain sense of the word of course.

Inland China is arid in several large areas. Kunming is fairly represented by the farmland in the SF desert terrain...but not the dunes. We have some Karst mountains to put into the scene to make Flying the Hump more realistic.
