Testing. Here's a trial run to see how much my computer can eat before it gets sick. Pics of some new toys.

Shokaku

Zuikaku

(On test missions, you get to launch right off the beach!)

Formation. Final cat positions are a lot more complex than this shot.

Pearl shaping up

Utah between Detroit and Raleigh

Launch

North shore with Diamondhead and Pearl Harbor in the distance.

The rest is too beta to show yet. Still have to put the men aboard, paint the Soryu, Hiryu and Kaga and a bunch of planes.

Banzai!

BTW, Nevada looks good. Utah too, I think this is the first time anyone even put her in the game, much less tried to make her look like a target ship.

I am guessing that drydocks aren't easily made in this game, hence the setup with the Pennsylvania the way she is. One thing you may want to do, if you can do it, is put a crane near the ship. I have read stories that part of the reason the Pennyslvania got away with such minor damage, besides being in drydock, was because a workman swing a crane back and forth across the ship, interfering with the dive bombers trying to hit her.

Tom,

All the objects around the harbor will be there when we let it go. A drydock is possible but the effort would sidetrack us. Hitting the PA is not on our mission list. The player can hit it and it will react as will the surrounding objects. But I am going back to our "Standard Excuse": that this is a flying game and we only guarantee the view from the cockpit. Of course, we really work very hard on the doodads but we keep that excuse handy for just such times as these.

But to prove we it's really only an excuse, we have attached some shots of what we have been doing in just the last 48 hours. Things are missing, out of place, unpainted but they give an idea of the size of the effort and investment to do just Pearl Harbor (and Phase One includes also the Sinking of Repulse and Prince of Wales, Malaysian Invasion and the defense of Kunming and Rangoon).

We need to put this all together and hope the lights don't dim when we round Barber's Point. I put in 16 hours a day and everyone else is hammering as hard as they can.

Each picture caption explains what was being tested.

When it's ready to show around, you will be the first in line, Tom.

///////

Eightlien's Bomb Sight. Set for each aircraft type engaged in level bombing.

Hinch's and mppd's work to remove an errant pixel that was causing shadow errors...and not destroying the UV mapping. (Yes. We know the wharf and piers are missing and the Val isn't painted.)

Some of the buildings for Hickam Field and Ford Island.

Tract homes and water tower for Pearl City...tested at an airfield where we are filming an airshow.

Arizona Destroyed Model test. Each ship has one based upon their pictures after the attack.

Sink test. (nothing tested. I just wanted to watch it sink.)

Submerged sub test.

PBY target. (look closely below the sub firing the torpedo) You will take off from the water, hunt and bomb a sub and land on the water.

Map View test. Mike wants lepers on Molokai but I had to draw the line somewhere. Deuces did give him the Banzai Pipeline on the North Shore, though.

View from Pearl City area. Testing time of day and clouds to match old pics.

We are right on schedule thanks to the efforts of the Team. That schedule is determined this way: Finish before YAP runs out of money.

The Kaga arrives today and it is a key ship in our chosen missions so we are off to Home Depot for some more gray paint.

Heck of a nice job!

on a side note about the ship placement the battleships were facing the other direction, so as Nevada tried, they could make fast haste for open ocean.

They are just sitting there right now. I was hoping that was clear when I posted the pictures. We were testing shadows and sometimes they only show from one side. So we turned them around.

Here they are turned the right way for the Pearl Harbor missions.

Here's a few shots of Pearl half done.

When double this number of structures are in place, it's ready.

I just noticed that I have not painted the tail or stuck the decals onto that Val yet.

Here's where you have to ask yourself if you really want to climb up into a fight.

Now to go back a few days and film an airshow at Hickam.

It's coming together fast now but there are still little things that keep us from showing pictures...like trees on the runway. It's just a detail we work around while the big pieces are being taken care of. Hickam's distinct objects are all in the works.

Now you see them...

Now you don't... (ugly tarmack...back to the drawing board)

Ground objects...

Destroyed models...

AI having fun all by itself...

You never can get used to hearing a Japanese pilot say "Rifle" in Arkansas dialect...RAFFLE.

Hinch's idea. Nice DM.

I love this tank.

More when the trees are clipped and the Navy base is built.

I feel you channelling Ben Affleck in those photos.

That's a creepy thought. I just got the G3M Nell in for the Malaysian Invasion so I have to switch to green paint for a while.
