What I need is a better understanding of how LB2 operates internally. How the ini files interact with the main program.

Hopefully this will help other noobies coming into this old classic.

How far we can tweak its parameters for better graphics can be covered as we progress.

From what I see so far, the main files are:

CA.INI, TUT.INI, HI.INI, MED.INI, LOW. INI & OBJVIEW.INI

Their initial parameters are controlled by our choice of installation {e.g. easy-expert & level of graphics detail}.

1. Are "CA, HI & OBJVIEW" all loaded at once to set up the graphics environment?

I gather these are used for single, campaign & instant action.

2. When switching to tutorial mode, are "TUT & OBJVIEW" the only files used in this mode, or is the "CA" file also included?

3. Which section is more graphics intensive - tutorial or gameplay?
I'll explain this question later.

As you can see I am making some basic assumptions. Correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks for your assistance...

You don't need to know anything about how LB2 works internally to play the game, being a noob especially. Why make things complicated? Imagine if you had to be an electrician just to watch TV, or be a car mechanic just to drive a car. Why do YOU need to know how LB2 works internally?

The INI files have been raked over time-and-time again in the past. Been there, done that, got the hydraulic fluid-stained t-shirt. Nothing can be done to improve the game graphics, especially since the glide wrappers add-in a lot of improvements anyway - and themselves not even that much of a leap forward.

For your info, the CA.INI is used by all aspects of the game - hence why no single section of the game crashes after the Heap fix (don't even ask). The main game is obviously more graphically intensive - as you can have a LOT of units and stuff going on. However, some of the tutorials have been known to induce a framerate lag - probably just a bug.

Find all the modded INI files on this page at my site here:
http://digitality.comyr.com/flyboy/lb2/setup/setup.html

Note that NONE of them made any difference, only the CA.INI fix - but that's just to stop the game from crashing.

Again, I advise you to give up on this NOW!
