But the inter-war dogma of "The bomber will always get through" didn't come from thin air. An interesting tid bit of info: The Ilya Muromets series of bombers Jason and I were talking about earlier only had one loss due to enemy aircraft in 1916. Four Albatroses tried to shoot it down, three of which were shot down by the Ilya Muromets! Goes to show you why that mentality existed for so long...

But the inter-war dogma of "The bomber will always get through" didn't come from thin air.
It came from that it was actually pretty hard to intercept bombers (find them first place and them vector interceptors) before they could drop bombs. Not how hard it was shoot them down when they were finally intercepted. IE germans did drop daylight Gotha raids because increasing losses (after British started to get better scouts, IE SE5a, for that duty) they suffered from intercepting fighters.
You can get used to everything, but icicle in the a**. It melts before you get used to it.

What is all the conversations about dead sixes and shooting at wings?
Big fat vulnerable engines.
Everything else is just missing.

Love. You can know all the math in the 'Verse, but take a boat in the air you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she oughtta fall down, tells ya she's hurtin' 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

We would like to have every major fighter and bomber built, Jason My credit cards waiting There's just so many funky WW1 era planes to model, some with very odd layouts. That's one of the things that makes WW1 a great era for gaming imo, outside the scouts there's so much variety available in aircraft shapes. In WW2 everything pretty much looks similar, WW1 with all the different layouts is almost like Crimson Skies I can't wait to see what's on the way for 2011.

How about this? Caproni Ca3, used on the Western Front by France, RFC and USAS. Awesome Friedrichshafen G.III, more common than the Gotha, the mainstay of the German heavy bomber force. There's just so many

To tell you the truth, I'm not overly excited by the big multi's though I did just put down for the HP 400 since it was on pre-release price (so don't flame me!). I reserve the right to change my mind and have a lot of fun flying it. I'm very excited by the promise of flyable/"gunnable" two seaters, which were involved in regular missions and figured much more prominently in daily activities. IMHO these are where the bread-and-butter is needed for realism, though I do understand that really BIG things that cause even BIGGER explosions sell better... It's a fine thing to see where this is all going.

There's just so many ...and so many that you can't find enough research for to make a half-decent flight model I bet. Such a shame! I'd love to see some of my more favorite "obscure" planes from the era, in Rise of Flight!

It's a fine thing to see where this is all going. I'd have said the same, 2 seaters first is the sensible thing, but I've got to admit to being seduced by the sight of the HPO in game. Don't get me wrong, we really need the BE2c and RE8 but I'm just really looking forward to the first pics and video of the Gotha V. I just want everything now, but obviously that's not possible

Being selfish and all, it would be great if this release could be out before Thanksgiving here in the US as I have 4 days off then! Would be fun to have a little practice in this puppy while dealing with the effects of tryptophan...

If you did, you know how fun it was...well now, in ROF is even more fun....imagine when two seaters will come....two seaters - an icons of WW1 air warfare
