Oh to be able to get in your twin engine aircraft and start both engines and control them separately. Taxi to the runway and make the taxiway turns assisted with the outside engine with the ball of your left hand on the throttle. After take off, to be able to compare a modded Cougar to the feel of a new toy that shouldn't be called a toy. An instrument, a tool of precision, a controller of location, speed and the misplaced illusion of control. Squeezing the first stage of the trigger to 'walk' the MG impacts over the fuselage of your aerial adversary and when they reach the nose, squeeze past the ramping force of the second stage to let loose the cannon rounds. Climbing away from his wingman by using your advantage of a tight circling climb by throttling the inside engine down a bit or moving the outside engine's throttle beyond the threshold to it's maximum, as your level wings create more lift in the vertical plane than his banked wings.

When you fly home and one of your engines sputters and it's RPM starts varying wildly, the temperature and oil pressure gauges are all over the place. Dying from the damage of that stray bullet that was meant for your cockpit, you throttle her back to idle, set the prop to it's feathered position and shut her down. Nursing the aircraft home on one engine, you'll fight for control of the untrimmed aircraft and bless your luck to have no need to take your hands of the controls.

Reducing speed on final, you notice the change in the handling and you adjust without thinking too much about it. The reduced RPM on the running engine now acts like a brake on that side and you adjust your foot's pressure on the rudder, as you maintain a slight bank to keep the dead engine higher. Flaps down and gear down you cover the remaining distance to the airstrip as you sink towards terra firma. As you park the aircraft, you notice the sweat on your brow and your back and you realise you've worked hard. But not as hard as you would have had to do with a less feature rich HOTAS.

Why I should win the TM Warthog HOTAS ?

That's simple.
While already owning a (way crappier) HOTAS, a G25, a TrackIR and a DIY MFD controller, there must be new fresh ways to
demonstrate my NERD-being to my girlfriend to make her say "Oh my god, what's that again !?" at least one more time smile

I just love the way she turns away giggling wink

You want to experience most realistic flight simulation excitement !
The Thrustmaster HOTAS WARTHOG™" will make your dream come true.

The HOTAS Warthog stick includes four buttons, an 8-way hat, and three four-way hats (including one with a push-down action). Thrustmaster has gone to great lengths to not only replicate the look of an A-10C HOTAS, but also the feel; the trigger is designed for a 7 N/mm spring constant until the first stage activates, then 22 N/mm for 4.5mm until the second stage activates.
The split throttle has one button, one 8-way hat, one 4-way hat with integrated pushbutton, four 3-position switches, and a mini-mouse controller. The throttles feature a clever lifting system for the detents, similar to the finger lifts found on real throttles. The idle detent is fixed and non-removable, while the afterburner detent can be eliminated with the simple removal of two thumbscrews, the reversal of an internal piece, and the replacement of the thumbscrews. The throttles cannot be moved through the detents unless the throttles are lifted, making them a true mechanical stop.
The throttle panel has two buttons, five 2-position switches, four 3-position switches, and a trim axis. Altogether the HOTAS Warthog has 51 action buttons, two POV hats, one mouse/slew control, and one trim wheel. All of the axes use non-contact magnetic sensors featuring Thrustmaster H.E.A.R.T. (Hall Effect AccuRate Technology). The two stick axes are 16-bit, the two throttle axes are 14-bit, and the slew control is 10-bit.
The HOTAS Warthog has a total weight of over 14 pounds. Some of this weight comes part and parcel with hefty metal construction, and some has actually been intentionally added to the product to create stable platforms. The stick handle is removable via the same knurled knob used on the Cougar, and in fact the Cougar handle and the HOTAS Warthog handle are completely interchangeable.
You want the Thrustmaster HOTAS WARTHOG™ !

I have managed to find a way to control an actual A-10C from my home computer. The only problem is, my Saitek X-52 is incompatible with the immensely complex systems of the A-10, and I have need of the Thrustmaster to safely control it and prevent crashing and wasting the taxpayers of the USA tons of money.

Think about it, its more then a UAV... one of those puny reapers, through the DCS A-10C interface I can control my own real A-10C, without ever being arrested by the USAF MPs, and provide CAS to NATO ground forces in Afghanistan and Iraq, all from the safety and comfort of my home computer! Heck, I'm not even going to demand money for my services, as in the words of the immortal Dwight Schrute, "A citizen does not take rewards for being a citizen."

Why do I want to win a new Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS?

1) The A10 is my favorite jet. I mean who would not want to fly a jet built around a gun. So a very well designed HOTAS is a must have. Thrustmaster makes one of the best HOTAS set ups out there and it is for an A10. I have read the SimHQ review and they said WOW! That is good enough for me.

2) Obama's stimulus and health care packages have not been very kind to me.

3) Dual throttle has to be awesome.

4) Learning a A10 study simulation with this HOTAS will really bump up the realism for me. Also labeled buttons and switches help with the complexity factor and getting back into the simulation after being away for a while.

6) When your diving and banking in a ground pounding attack and avoiding that nasty AAA to let the bad guys have a gift of that depleted uranium goodness the Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS is the best piece of hardware to keep your bacon out of the fire.

I have been flying flightsims for a very long time, dating back to the original F-15 Strike Eagle on the Commodore 64. I remember games like F-16 Combat Pilot that introduced dynamic campaigns, with the next mission generated based on how much damage you did and whether you survived the previous fight. I remember my first multiplayer experience with F-15 Strike Eagle III, where a friend and I flew front-seat / back-seat over a modem connection. I remember my first kill in Air Warrior, nailing a MiG-15 in a Friday snapshot, unfortunately just AFTER he got my flight lead. I remember every version of Falcon and was sad when Spectrum Holobyte finally closed their doors, excited when Allied Force was shipped, and disappointed that there has still been no follow-on. And while it wasn't quite a flight-sim, I also remember when I first played the original X-Wing with my Thrustmaster setup and discovered how valuable the throttle was, as it let me swoop in behind a T.I.E Fighter, match speeds, blow him away, then zoom off again. I've had a HOTAS of some sort ever since.

I also have a soft spot for the A-10. Every since A-10 Tank Killer from Dynamix, I miss my A-10 when asked to do ground attack missions. I didn't quite have the computer for LOMAC (although I tried), and the rumored A-10 for Falcon 3 never materialised. But two engines are MUCH better than one when running that low.

The new HOTAS is timely for me. I'm getting ready to redo my computer room and will finally get a chance to set up my workstation the way I want for both work and flying. I love that the Warthog has mounting holes so I can screw it down in just the right place for me. I also have two children who are avid gamers and are just starting to get interested in Daddy's flight sims, so I'm going to need another set very soon. It might kill their interest if they have to use some low-grade mass-market stick, so it would be nice to hand them down my current aging set.

And finally I love the build quality. Not just the metal parts and the mechanical workings, but also that we get more (in some cases a lot more) than 8-bits on the analog axes. That fine control can be very important to proper flying, and I'd like to see more sticks do this. The split throttles, a nice detent, lots of switches instead of all buttons, this is a fantastic piece of hardware, and I love that it's hitting the consumer market.

So to continue to feed my obsession, to fit into my redone workstation, to help introduce my kids to the world of flight simulation, and to support higher fidelity consumer controls, I could really use a Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog.

I would like to win the TM Warthog because I have never flipped a switch in my life. My whole purpose in life up to this point has been to flip a switch. If I win the TM Warthog, I will be able to flip that switch and my life's journey will be complete.

Thank you for your consideration.

Why do I want a Thrustmaster HOTAS WARTHOG?

Its not really want, it's more like need.

My present setup is simply not allowing me to reach my full potential!

Everytime I go to strafe a coloumn of armor I miss! it is clearly a HOTAS problem!

Also when I am engaged in some Nape of the Earth flying my setup somehow always makes me clip the ground and crash.... another example of how I am being limited by my sub standard setup!

I figure with the release of DCS A-10 a new HOTAS will allow me to "become all you can be" and avoid all these sub par HOTAS "accidents" I keep having!!!

regards

Darren "Winstondog"

If you do the HUGE mistake of sending me the Warthog :), i will write an extensive, A to Z review about it, starting from looks, feel, precision, coolness factor and continuing with a description of the programming part using the TARGET system. Topping it afterwards with a tutorial-like description of how to hook the HOTAS in my favorite simulator (which is now Rise of Flight) - mapping the axes, toggles and so on for maximum benefit, and highlighting the advantages one can obtain through external programming - for example, how to configure macros to send 'Salute!' and "Nice fight!" as automatic messages to the in-game chat, or in-game trimming, for planes which historically need one.

When i started to virtual-fly, what i missed most (besides a good flight stick) were those all-in-one tutorials, which take you by the hand and show you the basics, give you tips and make a full, if not extensive, tour of what the sim offers, show how to choose your input gear, how to squeeze the most of it, in order to make the new player 'sniff' and start to dream at the opening possibilities. Making a full circuit, shaping a missing arrow. This is what you _can_ do, if you put soul.

The admins here at SimHQ would cram-and-jam to publish this review-tutorial-article mayonesse, and Thrustmaster will nothing less than quickly place it as the first of their HOTAS Warthog manuals! This will make me even more famous (Dart's signature made me already very well-known), ... then next thing i'll move to US and candidate for presidency, and then, and then ... the day will come when (tentacle voice) i will take over the world!

Well, hmm, you are probably expecting another kind of post, one which would praise and show how desperately do i want, or indeed i'd need, the Warthog. Of course i'd like to have one, because - I really hope that the Warthog HOTAS is the true embodiment of the closest possible sensation to real flying. It certainly looks as THE joystick for flight, the revenge of the Cougar, the done-right sceptre, the simmer's delight. ... And if it's truly so magical, it means that this HOTAS Warthog, lying on my table, will make me (a WW1 nut) in a breath start to play the DCS A-10C Warthog simulator, not to sell my soul to jets, but to unite the spaces separated by a simple simmer's monitor.

Why I want a Thrustmaster HOTAS WARTHOG™

Because it would be embarrassing for my credit card statement to have a $500 charge titled "ThrustMaster HOTAS Warthog"
I mean think about what a non-simmer would think that means...it reminds me of a bad, beer-goggled, soju-soaked night in Korea, long, long ago...

Thank you for your consideration!

Why do I need a Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS? Because I was 100% permanently and totally disabled in-the-line-of-duty in the U.S. armed forces and now they won't let me drive or fly. So now I fly flight simulations in-between seizures from the coup-contra-coup brain injury I suffered. And my favorite airplane is the A-10. So I need that HOTAS! Otherwise, I'll have even more nightmares than I have now.

And having nightmares makes me grouchy. For God's sake, think of the children, LOL!

Cheers!

Rick... hahaha

Why I want a Thrustmaster HOTAS WARTHOG™.....

well, I need a decent joystick setup and I am hoping for Thrustmaster to make Warthogs affordable for all... "even geordies", just like those nice people at directski are endeavoring to achieve in providing affordable skiing holidays for us all in this poor deprived part of the world. hahaha

I want a warthog because I don't have one. I also want an Apopo mine sniffing rat. I don't have one of those either. I don't know any Gambians or I would probably order an Apopo rat since there is no contest going on at the moment to win one. If I had to choose between a Thurstmaster Warthog and an Apopo mine sniffing rat...well it would be a tough choice...but I think I would rather have the warthog. Let me know when you need my shipping address.

Why Thrustmaster HOTAS WARTHOG wants me?

Simply put… We are a match made in Heaven, as some would say. A high class HOTAS like herself requires special treatment to get the most out of her, and to discover her full potential. This means that she isn't just a stick and throttle made for anyone out there. Sure anyone can fly with her, but with me she will experience only high end flight sims, from DCS titles to the upcoming Storm of War series. Although she hesitated in the beginning, when she laid eyes on my work in IL2 Sturmovik there was no going back... she wants me as much as I do her.
Before we get airborne I will program her switches beyond her wildest dreams, the way she never imagined it was possible. Once up in the air, first I will get dirty with her, down low and slow. Then I will take her to Heaven and back, long into the night while we switch from air to ground ops with some aerial refueling in between.
She knows that I will be true to her and that I won’t use any other sticks next to Warthog HOTAS. And I will not modify her in any way. What other people say or think about this is of no concern to me, for she is the only HOTAS I was meant to fly with. Whenever we attend those high profile online events her performance will shine, every time with her in my hands.
Then as we grow old together I won't replace her with a newer model, instead I will make sure that she always has what she needs, from precision formation flying to dust covers when she is grounded. Anything that she requires, she will have with me. And much more, because together we will own virtual skies – 'til death do us part.

Yours sincerely,

T}{OR

I really need a new Thrustmaster HOTAS badly. My old F-22 Pro and F-16 TQS are really getting "long in tooth", kinda like me. I'm an old Vietnam vet that flew "Snakes" over in Nam back in 1969,yea I know, really an old fart! Living on social security and a little disability from Uncle Sam and really can't shake the bucks loose for new equipment, besides wifey would flail me with extreme prejudice if I even thought about it...

I've managed over the years to collect just about every flight sim that's been available ( with the help of understanding kids for birthdays, Christmas and father's day) They've got families now and the largess has dwindled somewhat in recent years however. My logical propositions to my wife have fallen on death ears also, she is not buying my argument that the money I save from drinking, smoking and chasing wild woman is what I would use for my "Hobby".

So you see why I would really like to win the New Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog, I'd even pose for publicity pictures with the caption something like "A New Warthog for an Old Warthog"....

Thank you for reading my post, Silver Spur "Three five"

Why should I win a HOTAS Warthog? Excellent question:

As a humble college student, my means only permit me to fly small planes in real life as I work towards passing my private pilot's checkride. Aviation is my first passion and simulations have been an excellent outlet for when I haven't been able to fly for real -- they allow me to experience aircraft I could otherwise only dream of flying!

DCS A-10C has had an incredible impact on the direction of the simulation community -- by releasing the HOTAS Warthog, Thurstmaster has brought the peripheral market up to speed with such high-fidelity simulation and has created a product that can seriously contribute to the experience!

So, why should I win? One, it would make an excellent checkride present! And two, I could really use a new HOTAS, and the Warthog is without a doubt the finest on the market!

Thank you!
Paul

Why do I want a Thrustmaster HOTAS WARTHOG?

When I heard that they were going to manufacture Warthog T-shirts I was ecstatic. Then they dropped the bomb by saying that they will go as far as to manufacture a HOTAS, too. As a proud owner of a said T-shirt I believe that I need more apparel fitting to the theme. And what would fit better than a HOTAS based on the T-shirt? I for one can't just walk around with the shirt while knowing that there is more to be had.
