Great stuff, BBall! Very entertaining and informative. I know what I'll be doing when I get home tonight...

Great post BBall cheers I sure hope this inspires folks here to make great tracks (and post them) of challenging weather landings!

What's your opinion on the 'Turbulence' aspect? I was tinkering about with a 20 mph cross-wind at a turbulence setting of 30 m/s*0.1 and it was nice and squirrelly on finals. Was just wondering how it compares to RL experience. Mind you - not too sure I'd appreciate that IRL - No RCVR button smile

Viper,

To tell you the truth, I've never played around with the "turbulence" option. I'll have to play with it and see what it's like.

Sidebar: I was landing in KLAX one day behind a Qantas B747-400. The "Santa Anna winds" were howling, and it was moderate turbulence all the way down final (the crosswind was
about 40 degrees at 30 gusting to 40 kts).

After he touched down, he exited the runway and asked the ground controller if he could
stop and hold his position for a bit. The ATC guy asked why and he said (I'll never forget his response)..."We would like a company vehicle to come out and look us over...we think we broke something."

smile

I'll let you know what I find.

cheers,

BBall

Great posts guys!

We land the 737-200 using the crab till flare and we face big crosswinds in the Canadian arctic... many times landing on 5000 to 6000 foot gravel runways. Not your typical airline flying by any means but a lot of fun!

Shep, you give up the Lear in YWG for a 737? Haven't seen you since I was flying the DC-9.

Cheers!

In pilot training, they didn't allow us to use 'kick rudder in the last moment' in either aircraft. Wing into wind direction and use rudder to get on to center. Also landing with flaps at TO will make life easier.

anyway I can get a track of this? I want to learn how to do this, but would be best if I can see it done in game.

Great post! DCS can count on my purchase of anything they release in the future after DCS: Black Shark and now DCS: Warthog.

For real crosswind excitement, try anything above 15 knots at 90 degrees in a DC-3!

Cheers!
