Are there any good multiplayer space sims out there?

Seems the only one coming out soon is starwraith is that correct? I would kill for a good space sim on quality with starshatter. I guess the genre is pretty much dead.

I think the Star Trek MMO and the upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic is all there is now and in the near future. I guess they hey don't really count as sims though.

I've noticed that the term "space sim" seems throw off a lot of people. I assume you mean a game where you have a cockpit or bridge view of a ship during combat? In other words games like Klingon Academy, Tie Fighter and Freespace.

Why can't Lucas Arts make a revamped version of Tie Fighter or X-Wing!

Can you imagine how awesome 16 vs 16 would be flying the Deathstar trench run with modern technology? Have people manning turbolaser cannon stations as well? Sort of like Starwars Battlefront with a more simlike approach. Like an ARMA2 for starwars!

Snowspeeders vs ATATs, 2 people per speeder one firing the tow cable and navigation stuff....or have humans controlling Star Destroyers as well! Dear lord.

THAT is a dream game for me.

The rogue squadron games were good like that but no MP. I would love to have an updated xwing or tie fighter but I doubt we will ever see one.

I looked up this one. It looks very unique. I remember trying it 2 years ago for a brief time. At the time I had no idea how to play and wrote it off due to having no clue how to play. Reading about it now has me interested again. Does anyone here play this? Seems it has a very steep learning curve and I'm not sure I'd enjoy the journey towards proficiency, given its dated graphics and hardcore player base that will surely claim "pwnership".

Wasn't there going to be a Stargate SG1 mod for something? I have lost track, but still would like a SG1 FPS.

I played it pretty heavily when the original game came out, I tried the free version later on but never spent the time to get back into it. It was a fantastic concept that was probably way before it's time. With a coordinated team it was a ridiculous amount of fun with people scouting, flying bombers and escorts and also having to keep a defense organized it was full on battle with command structure and everything.

I imagine trying to get into it now would be tough because, as you said, the people left there are the hardcore that have been playing it for years and will probably shoot you down before you know what is happening.

There is a few more MP Only or MP capable games that are coming soon:

Naumachia: Space Warfare (coming soon)
Heresy War (coming soon)
Combat Simulation System (coming soon)
Evochron Mercenary (out now)
Jumpgate Evolution (coming soon)
Black Prophecy (coming soon)
Infinity: The Quest for Earth (coming not so soon)
Taikodom (out now/beta)
Vendetta Online (out now)
Miner Wars (coming soon)

There is a few others I am missing but all of these games do have a dedicated area on SSC. And there is a bunch of indie space games in the works and some nice SP games coming as well.
