All in all it looks really good. I can't help but thinking that this part of the cockpit modelling needs a bit more detailing, though. Those bars and the wing roots and the way they are fastened to each other, it all looks a bit rudimentary compared to most other cockpits we've seen. I say that in particular since this is the view we'll be using the most... Here's a pic of the real thing: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/81/Sop3pit.jpg Yes, and what I'd like to see is (for instance) the cable on the starboard upright being bent correctly around the wing stub, and not just going through it... - Also, the shape of the metal bars going from cockpit to the wing stubs could be better profiled.

Bring on Ray Collishaw's Black Maria. One of my faves. That Tripe is in the Canadian Aviation & Space Museum EXPLORE HERE I have a B&W picture of me in front of it as a youngster. It was a very formative visit, you could walk right up to it. As I just found out though it is a replica built in 1966, but it has an original 130 HP Clerget engine. Thanks for profile link Womencanfly2. I was just reading about the Triplane stabilizer & elevator configuration; the original layout had the stabilizer wider than the elevator, just like on the Pup. You can see that on the picture of the prototype on page 4 (and a bit on other images). This caused the Tripe to be a "reluctant diver", and much consternation for pilots in combat, so Sopwith later modified it to look more triangular like what the Camel has later on and what everyone now expects the Tripe tail to look like. So there sort of are two unofficial versions with very different handling behaviours.

Thanks for the update Jason.
The externals Looking beautiful as always. Cockpit could maybe do with a bit of texture work to bring it into line with the other ROF aircraft, but of course its WIP.

Holy Venetion Blinds, Batman! Looks like Sopwith On The Thames is going to be very well represented in ROF. As far as the cockpit is concerned, I don't think any of us have any reason to think that this will not be an absolutely beautiful rendition of this airplane. WIP!

What cockpit shot? Was it edited from the thread based on a few constructive comments? You can see it in my posting in this thread JFM.

I'm not sure why they've gone, if they're development shots with placeholder textures then that's fine. Like others in here I find this sort of stuff interesting and it gives us plenty to talk about, creates a bit of a buzz.
The dev's have set the bar very high texture wise, people can only comment on what they see compared to the devs previous work. The ealy Pup shots had placeholder skins, the new ones are of the same high quality as the Camel. I'm sure the same will happen with the Triplane cockpit textures.
Tbh I'd like to see a bit more development stuff, it lets the community see that things are progressing and keeeps the nay sayers quiet.

Really looking forward to the Tripehound and Pup too, loving the Collishaw skin and the exterior models look great. Nice info in your post WF2, I had no idea a 200hp Hispano-Suiza Tripe was ever made, cool! Think I'll be forced into some practice in the DR1 (I've hardly touched it, and only had about an hour in it lol) for preparation as I expect them to fly quite similarly but the rotary effect to be a lot less pronounced and a smoother ride. Will be interesting to see how it performs in dives as well, I'd expect you'll have to take more care at higher speeds. See Field Agent Mings excellent finds here in case you've missed them (around mid page), lots of good info and very credible primary sources. http://riseofflight.com/Forum/viewforum.php?f=275Hope we get trim implementation one day too, as I recall from the Jason/Albert dev update interview a while back, they did not rule out the possibility. Fingers crossed. Hun Alb DII pilots be afraid, be very afraid.

I love the graphics in this game....as soon as I get a new stick I'm buying the iron cross edition....however anyone think the planes look to new? I imagine they weren't as shiny and sparkly as they are in this game...what about oil marks and general wear and tear...they just look too perfect... Default skins are indeed showing factory-new condition for the most part. Third-party (ie, user-created) skins can be as rough and ready as you like. I've seen one skin where the paint has worn and peeled over the frame beneath, it's a pretty well-done effect and it certainly doesn't look too new!

I agree that Jason didn't need to edit the cockpit shot out of his original posting, but you can still see it in my first post a bit further down on page 1. I absolutely adore the look of the planes in RoF, that's why I had some misgivings about the forward view of this Pup in progress. But I'm very happy that we're given a chance to see and comment on it before it shows up in the sim, so big kudos to Jason and the developers for that! - The original P-47 cockpit in Il-2 really wasn't up to scratch, but we only got to see it when it was in-game...
Wodin, third-party skinners are free to make skins that look really weathered. But remember that most of these machines didn't survive a lot of missions. Their life time would most often be counted in days or weeks. And I also think they were washed down as well as possible between sorties. Yes I did because all of your critiques of an unfinished model caused all kinds of heartburn in Moscow, so I removed them at the request of the Producer. My posting it was not meant to be a critiquing session. Some of you don't know what work in progress means. No more cockpit pics until final now. Jason
