I'm with the majority here. While looking great and appreciated by the RoF community these heavy bombers are not what RoF needs right now.

What we need are more 2 seaters, BE2/FE2/RE8/Albatros C.III to name a few.

For example there were only approx. 600 of this bomber built (and even less of the Gotha series) but over 4000 RE8 planes alone.

Were there no daylight encounters between O/400's and German aircraft? I know there were plenty between Gothas and British fighters, but mostly in the home defence area.

Hopefully all those will be in the sim, Smosh. I just can't see how they wouldn't be (I know they should be there now but we can't change that) because they were keystones of the air war. Perhaps after the new career is implemented they'll start rolling them out.

My position is RoF needs two seaters and bombers, so I'll applaud any release that isn't a single-seater scout. Still, I understand it takes a lot to be patient and wait through releases that don't agree with one's preference. I did that with the Fokker D.VIII, a sexy-looking machine to be sure but whose role in WW1 was insignificant. I guess it was better than releasing a Ponnier M.1.

Another question (even before my above one is answered):

Did the O/400's operate from any of the fields we already have in RoF? - Are there actually any fields from which they CAN operate? - I guess they need huge hangars and long long fields...

Yeah, gotta go along with the majority, here. While any new additions are great, I would have thought that making the Bruguet and DFW flyable would have been the next step.
They will need their own airfields, won't they? They'll look a bit silly sitting next to those little hangers. "You can't fit that big thing in there!" (That's what SHE said!)
They certainly aren't sitting on their hands over there, though, are they? They are really serious about this sim, and are improving it, all the time.
In October, if I read the article correctly, we can expect the Sopwith Pup and Triplane. And new water textures. It's only gonna get better.

Guys, they probably decided to go with the rather large bombers first to be sure the code they are creating works on this scale. The HP O/400 would have five positions max, and the Gotha five to six (I'm including the bomb site view as it's own position here). Once they have this code in place, going back down to two-seaters will be easy. Think proof-of-concept here.

I'm fairly sure that proof of concept would be two positions as we have just the one right now

Then if that worked, expand the number of positions to three, four and in the ultimate five

Not to run before we can walk I mean Smile2

It works a little different in the software/programming world at times... With certain software, it's better to start out as big as you can, then work your way down. Usually it's the complicated things that cause you grief, and if you start with them first, when you scale back usually you run into little to no problems.

I actually think this is a smart move. I tend to prefer multi engines over single engines any day of the week and there are some who just aren't interested at all in fighters and this will bring them in. Personally, I can see my time in fighters going down to almost nothing once this and the Gotha are released...I just like blowing stuff up smile

My basic hope is that the gunners can be ordered to strafe (on both these and the two seaters). A large proportion of the aircraft's firepower is in the gunners hands and they two seaters at least were often used that way.

Its a fantastic model, as we've come to expect from the ROF team. Needs a nicer skin though, as I'm sure it'll have on release.

I can't find much info about daylight ops, Wiki says they were used in ground support in defending against the German spring offensive. That'd be March-July 1918. Maybe they were used in daylight army co-op similar to the way Bomber Command assets were used in support of the WW2 Normandy bridgehead in June-July 1944.
