Just turn off the ugly 'bloom' and it'll prob run smooth! On that point, why do most recent games have bloom, last time I checked I don't perceive reality with a mystical fog over everything! Having said that, I'd rather they use those resources for 'atmospheric' effects, kinda like what was done for Ace Combat 5, the feeling of a 'thick atmosphere' was outstanding if nothing else. Thoughts?

It isn't bloom (well, some of it might be) in general it is HDR, and it is still being tuned. Personally I found the HDR to produce more realistic visuals compared to real flying experience (not that I have oodles and oodles of it or anything). And FYI, as far as flying goes, the weather can go from 'clear' to 'mystical fog' and back in no-time at all ... you won't see it from the ground, but from a plane half your world suddenly dissapears. Just turn off the ugly 'bloom' and it'll prob run smooth! On that point, why do most recent games have bloom, last time I checked I don't perceive reality with a mystical fog over everything! Well...if it was bloom, it could still run smoothly, but in case of HDR, it eats a lot of processing power. In my opinion, I like the way, they are trying to enhance the look of their sims. Thumbs up. It is still WIP I think, so there will certainly be a lot of tweaking in the finishing procedures. Me personaly, I like these kinds of effects, but sometimes less is more. Depends on situation. I think it has bigger intensity thanks to sunset time, when there is direct sun light on the dashboard. But You must admit, that thanks to these filters the sky, clouds and sun look great! I agree with Ace Combat style of lighting and atmospheric effects. Top quality for sure!

Look at all those lovely switches Watching these damned things is torment all over again (actually WORSE than for Black Shark) - I'm a helo guy at heart as well! Seems I'm going to need a Track IR too now - have managed without for DCS:BS, but for some reason I'm feeling the urge to get one at the same time as the new joystick for this new sim Think on this - next time you find yourself flagging at work and wonder why you're there - it's so you have money for things like THIS sim Martin...

Flying is a very visual activity, so I personally believe the visuals are one of the absolutely most important things when it comes to enhancing flight simulation fidelity What I'm trying to say is - those effects aren't just being added to wow you, but to give you the most realistic representation of flight that ED can manage. I just got my TrackIR 5 yesterday. I had been messing around between BS, F4AF, and FC2. Its just amazing, and I took out a Su-27 in a knife fight with an F-15.
It's definitely worth the investment, however with the BS I did fine without it simply b/c there really isn't a ton of visibility in the first place, however with it, it certainly makes flying NOE much easier, as you can actually look where you NEED to go in the same motion as checking where you are going.

Nice video with the detail we've come to expect after BS. I've said it before but I think its worth saying again, marketed right Warthog can be massive for ED. Its already a popular aircraft familiar to the man on the street but getting the C model is a huge scoop. I'm not keen on the "look" maybe its pure bloom, but I don't think so. The whole view looks slightly soft, I'm certainly not against bloom and HDR in sims (I like the bloom in ROF but the HDR makes everything over contrasty) but it needs to be done right. This reminds me of the way Ghost Recon AW looked, like my monitors been smeared with vaseline. I'm not a fan. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YktbRdfcG2U&feature=relatedEdit........................................ Mayas description of "mystical fog" is quite apt. Apart from some low res ground textures out of the box BS looks very nice.
