I've had Il2 1946 for a while, and keep dipping in and out of it.

Last time I got into it, I got quite familar with Uber demon's quick mission generator, and made myself some rudimentary missions.

I have had to buy a replacement DVD and reinstall (my original DVD the centre hole thing got like frayed edges and wouldn't run the game, never got to the bottom of that!) but now I can't seem to launch UDQG. I have a folder stuffed with files for it, but there doesn't seem to be a start button or an exe file to click on. And the website is sometimes there, sometimes not.

I have now started dabbling with the full mission generator, but it is a monster, and there are so many maps in there, I'd like to be able to use them quickly.

Is there an alternative to UDQG that will let me set up fairly simple missions in all these new (to me!) territories?

Or can I just drop the extra maps into the game's original quick mission generator?

Um, I suspect you didn't get any replies because nobody who read your post knew the answer. I'm sure you can't add maps to the original QMB, but as to what else is available I'm unsure. It might be worth having a look on the Mission4Today site ( http://mission4today.com/index.php ), or even asking the question there.

Thanks guys, I'll check those out. Not often I have a question no-one can answer!

By default UP 2.01 uses the same QMB maps as stock 4.09m, but you can select QMBPro from the JSGME mod enabler. I've not tried it yet myself though, so I don't know how well it works.

It works quite well, but there is an additional step (or three) to be taken in order to see/experience the new maps. Complete documentation in the form of various "QMBxxx" files can be found in '...\<Your IL-2 1946 Folder>\Ultr@PackDocs\'.

Quick method:

  • Open '...\<Your IL-2 1946 Folder>\Quicks\QMBMaps.ini' in a text editor, remove all the "//" slashes in front of the various lines of text; save the file.
  • Open JSGME, enable the "00_QMBPro_PAL" mod. Close JSGME.
  • Open your modded IL-2, select Quick Mission Builder from the main menu and have fun exploring the multitude of maps.

Note that not all maps will work with all the various mission types (Armor, bridge, strike, etc.) This is because several of the newer maps may only have a pair of red/blue 'None' mission templates available. Or they may not have any mission templates at all. Or ... in some cases QMBPro_PAL includes maps that aren't in UP 2.01, you may need to manually add them.

So don't be disturbed by any error messages you may see, usually those messages just mean that there is no mission template available to load or the selected map is simply not available.
