The Black Sabbath CD 'Heaven and Hell' is my top 10 all-time favorites. If I had a time machine I would want to go back and see Mr. Dio in his prime with the Sab.
I was just thinking about how there can never be another RJD...no record company would sign an ugly little troll man today, even if he had a 5 octave range...I notice that about a lot of older acts. It used to be just about the music and not so much about the image. I guess that's why I think most new music sucks...or maybe I'm just going over the hill.

His voice made him not his looks. I bet he would be the first to agree. Not disrespectful at all, just honest. If anything its a disgrace that the industry favors looks over talent...but that's probably why the music today is so shiite.

Music today does blow...big time. It's all about how good you look on MTV, it is not art anymore. Thank God guys like RJD left a huge library of timeless Rock and Roll, for us old dudes.
What a shock, I did know he had cancer, but the last I heard he was doing well. One of my all time favorite singers. The album Heaven and Hell is one of Ronnies best. He was also amazing with Rainbow. RIP. The Rock world just lost a legend. I still get chills at 7:24, always will, actually listening to 6:47 on seems fitting.
I see a rainbow rising Look there on the horizon And I'm coming home Coming home, I'm coming home
Time is standing still He gave me back my will Oh, oh, oh, oh Going home I'm going home My eyes are bleeding And my heart is weeping We still hope, we still hope, oh Take me back He gave me back my will Oh, oh, oh, oh Going home I'm going home My eyes are bleeding And my heart is weeping
aweomse song. I have this on the 'best of Rainbow' download. There is another song with Dio on this release that I really really dig...can't think of it ATM I have no clue what most of songs are about, but I really dig his lyrics and themes.
edit...had to look it up. It is called "The Man on the Silver Mountain." great tune!
RAWK ON!
edit of edit here is the utubey vid thing:

Just look at me and listen Im the man, the man, give you my hand Come down with fire Lift my spirit higher Im the man on the silver mountain Im the man on the silver mountain Im the night the light The black and the white The man on the silver mountain
Anyone with XM radio, Eddie Trunk is doing a full tribute to Ronnie James Dio. 4 hours of talking to RJD's friends and family, and of course great tunes.
I remember when Holy Diver was released, I was 14 and had recently started getting into metal & hard rock due to having some older friends who didn't listen to the pop that most kids my age listened to. When I first heard Holy Diver (the song) I was absolutely floored - I'd never heard anything remotely like it before. It was different than the Iron Maiden and Judas Priest I was starting to become familiar with; more raw and elemental, I guess you'd say. Now I can look back and say it sort of had the tempo and "weight" of songs by the original Black Sabbath, but with a more modern sound. When I discovered the way the calligraphic "DIO" on the cover read "DEVIL" when viewed upside down, I thought it was even more cool than "Mr Mojo Risin" being an anagram for "Jim Morrison" LOL.
I'd have to say that the 5 metal/hard rock songs that made the biggest impressions on me during my formative teenage years were Golden Earring's "Twilight Zone," "Red Barchetta" and "Subdivisions" by Rush, Iron Maiden's "Where Eagles Dare," and Holy Diver. Every so often I still think "Holy #%&*$#, that song kicks ass!"
