Fascinating stuff. Let's just hope Voyager 2 doesn't end up being commandeered by some alien lifeform and then sent back as a huge "death cloud" towards Earth. biggrin

Naaa, it will be used as target practice by the Klingons.

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the universe is for it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more inexplicable.
There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

The engineering reliability built into these two spacecraft is simply amazing. The fact that the software design, so many years ago permits updates, repairs, etc. this many years later (in computer/software devolopment) is also gratifying.

Amazing, I wonder how many computers on Earth are still running on the original parts.

How long does it take for it's data to reach Earth?

The article mentions that at the current location of Voyager 2, it takes about 13 hours for the data to reach Earth.

So much about the theory that aliens would logically have to be more advanced than us if they have to rely on an IT helpline!

I have to imagine it's been upgraded by now but, I know the shuttle was still using 8088s well past the introduction of the Pentium.

I would have to assume that the hardware it left Earth with is the same hardware it is still using.
