We stayed for a week at the "Reef Club" in Cozumel some years ago - really enjoyed it. In June we're headed for the Big Island Hawaii.

Hey Beach ... just got back from Akumal last week. Our fifth trip ...

Are you aware of this forum ....?

http://www.locogringo.com/ Great info on the whole area ...

We had a blast ... have you found the cannons in Akumal Bay ??

My daughter and I did ... there are five ... will you find them all ? That is a cannon by her head.

Better pic of a cannon ...

Akumal means "place of the turtle" in Mayan ...

Surprised this guy by sneaking low on the bottom and popping up over the coral. Spotted ray about a meter across ...

Enjoy !!

Hey, what airline has wifi now anyway? I only end up on Southwest...something about cheapo insurance companies who will spend $.44 to send me a $.10 expense reimbursement but question why a letter took ten minutes to write, instead of five.

If you look on this map, you can see the area marked "Most Turtles". This is to the left if you were to stand with your back to the Lol-Ha restaurant and look out on the bay.

The cannons are just to the right of the octagon that marks the most turtles spot as the coral slopes up towards shore. Swim out directly from the Akumal Dive shop.

Since you are in Akumal make sure to go and snorkel Half Moon Bay on the way to Yal-ku. Stop at the La Buena Vida and grab a table and snorkel right from there. The ceviche is great. Fun place.

The other highlight of this trip was going to Coba ruins. We rented bikes and rode around the area and to the big pyramid. You can still climb to the top for an amazing view. We rented a guide, which was well worth it, and marvelled at how big Coba was. There are still over a thousand buildings yet to be uncovered.

Have a great trip !

Cool. We are actually staying at Half Moon Bay..so that will work out. We loved the snorkeling at Half Moon Bay..and we also snorkeled around the corner there at Yal-Ku lagoon. We went all the way out the inlet. I suspect if the water is calm Marisa and I will snorkel around the point at the east side of Half Moon Bay and go right up into Yal-Ku again.

We'll definitely look for those cannons! smile

Hey I'm back!

When I get pix sorted out I'll post them. Might not be for a while though since I'm heading to Montreal this weekend.

And BTW, I was on American Airlines when I had the WiFi. in their magazine it said that they are outfitting most of their fleet with it, but not all. I was on an MD80 on the way to Dallas and they had it. The 737 to Cozumel did not, nor did the 737 or the S80 on the way back. $8 got you WiFi for as long as the flight lasted.

I seem to be getting alot of celebrity sightings on my trips these days. In Los Angeles, my girlfriend and I saw Charo folding her laundry at her house. On the plane back, Ryan Reynolds was sitting in first class as we walked by to take our lowly coach seats, and while waiting in line to check in to my flight back to Chicago from Cozumel, Bruce Dern was walked past me toward the gate.

So, who will I see on the way to Montreal...?

boNes
