Yes, you will be required to find 604k of free conventional memory, install an EMM.SYS memory manager and load DOS into HIMEM.

Don't burn yourself out Flex, it seems you and AD are pushing it, props to what already seems to be a high quality product, can't wait to fly that baby! If the success of Black Shark is an indication the reward will come by itself! Keep at it!

Burn-out is a definite risk, thankfully a lot of the mundane tasks are behind us and much of the fun stuff is still ahead.

Cheers

Damn, and I though you were going to use audio cassettes. I'm disapointed with this... hahaha

We had a little chat and decided it'd be best to put it out onto 3 150MB Bernoulli removable disk drives . Recommended retail price will be in the region of $500.

I am following the blog, too. As a matter of fact I was going to open a thread yesterday about the blog, but here we are, Ivon beat me to it.

It is so nice to be able to follow the development, and with the frequency you guys are posting, all I gotta do is watch in awe.

I have a couple questions, what does it take to make the mirrors, really mirrors? There is the check up mirror in CPG station where you usually visually check your fellow crew, would it drop the FPS too much to have a 3D image there?

Is it possible to have depth in the boresight reticle unit?

Mirrors require having a second camera to render the view so while it's possible you will need a beast of a GPU. Since we don't have a rigged body for ground mode yet, there's "nobody flying the plane". So we don't want to scare you wink

Could maybe do something about the boresight, like the TADS cameras we could recess an internal view and have a glass cap on it. Spent 36 polys of the freaking bolts holding it down, I'm sure can spare a few for the boresight (it actually bugs me a little but I keep forgetting to mention it). Also I look at it and think we could actually do something interesting with it, centre TrackIR function, along those lines. Waiting for inspiration to strike on that one.

There's lots of little things to do that will get done when we're doing quality passes over game assets. Textures, colouring, object counts. The style has to match our intent. That's partly why I'm not keen on asset contributions, the work required to make things match can offset time saved. If you don't spend time doing that it ends up looking like crap. Once you accept the world as represented you get sucked in, we hope.

Just caught up with the blog, sorry to hear your news Flex. I know how you feel, my position is still "undefined". Looking at the blog though, it seems you at least have some relevant skills for 2010, wish I could do that stuff! Loving the dust storm video...

Flex, you should set up a paypal account, we could make deposits on the finished product and get credit when you're back on your feet and done with the program.

Scylla, thanks for the suggestion. I'm good for a while, on the positive side I can work on it full time.

Last 48 hours I've been heads-down working on lots of little improvements so I haven't had time to blog except tweet occasionally. My weekend milestone is getting the arming feature done.

This will probably come out before DCS Apache (if that comes out) so our only hope of having a modern Apache simulator is right here.

This is a new era in flight simming!!

Keep in ind that if DCS eventually comes out with an Apache simulator, it will be the AH-64A, not the D model.
