Note #6

The main greenzone has been populated with vegetation. The area is around 120 sq KM so it was quite an under-taking. Frame rates have not been effected by the vegetation, however load-times have. Luckily our game will only load once.

Some 'early morning' shots.

Looking east towards the end of the greenzone.

Standing in a Northern section of the 'zone.

Standing in a crop field looking North.

This is a mini-greenzone/village area to the south of the map. So far there are 8 such places.

So far our ground vehicles are static, but some day they'll be rolling through this area.

Cheers

The engine we're using lights terrain and objects in ways I haven't seen before, it's really something. I hadn't noticed how cold the above shots looked until I took another glance.

The engine also does stiflingly hot.

Yeah, someone was saying add a little orange to the directional and blue tint to the ambient. Makes a big difference.

Nice to see old 'joe' freed from the electric fence wink he's still a bit of a poser though smile

I know is a WIP but from my point of view the soldier looks too musculated, too big headed and with a macho man face. lol

I think we would live with him though, if it meant the guys could move on to more helo-based areas of the work!

He's "Blow Up Joe", used as a measuring tool, models of known height used as reference. Feel free to poke fun at him. We do.

I don't have a great-deal of confidence in my soldier model either, but I will say American soldiers seem to wear more body armour than most. That said, the Iranian and Taliban version will probably be just as muscular and big headed. smile If we were aiming to build ArmA 3 I think we'd have to try a little harder with the infantry, but as they're just dots on the ground there's no real point.

Hopefully we can find something better. Unfortunately first person shooters haven't used models in this poly range (my soldier is only 1600 polys) for years and years. The only models we've found have poly counts up around 10K and look more like cartoon soldiers which makes them really unsuitable for our needs.

Cheers

I hope not, there's some models online, or a good person to talk to is ES3DStudios:

http://www.es3dstudios.com/ES3D_Home.html

More than likely he can work up some good low poly models for you, or even they got some at Turbosquid:

I hate to be a nitpicker, but it doesn't really get immersive when you'll be gunning down big, muscular "afghans", just kills the immersion factor for me smile

I'm pumped you are doing infantry at all. You are right you don't need the the best looking infantry in a helo sim.
My question is, will they have realistic behavior, or just stand around like black shark?

Does this have a campaign or just random missions?

At a minimum, infantry will dismount from APC's and shoot at each other. However, the engine we're using appears to have been designed for first person shooters, so I'm pretty sure we'll be able to do more than just dismount and shoot.

We've planned in some detail a dynamic campaign system.

LOL, the insurgents on that site look like they could have been under-studies for Arnie back in the 80's.

This chap has a realistic set of character models at 1/3rd the price and half the polys.
