What an unfortunate name, but I guess it says it all.
First thing I thought: why take the most boring part of EVE and build it into an entire game?
Then I watched another video and it at least looks cool. Shows some attacks. Checked the website:

Quote:

Overview

Miner Wars is a 6DOF underground and space shooter played in a fully destructible environment and is a combination of single player story game and MMO.

As a player, you operate an advanced mining ship in an open world asteroid belt area. You dig kilometers of tunnels, harvest the ore, travel the solar system, fight your enemies and discover mysterious alien secrets.

Game play is led by an epic story and is a combination of a single/multi-player game, cooperative, or you against everyone.

The story will introduce you to many types of missions: rescue, exploration, revenge, base defense, theft, transportation, stealth, search and destroy, pure harvesting, racing or just flying around and destroying everything you see.
(NOW we're talkin!)

Platform: Windows, Xbox 360 Live Arcade

Wait, what?
A game like that on XBLA? That changes everything. This could have a lot of potential at that scale. Sounds like fun now, especially if we can play on Live as an MMO (at the right price).

Site: www.minerwars.com
Claims to announce this Fall, but surely on pc first.

The better of the videos:

Reminds me of Descent with the 6 degrees of freedom.

Speaking of which, that game should be made available on XBL.

It's not XBLA, but you can get the Descent series at gog.com nice and cheap.

I'm with Leemz about it sounding like a kind of continuation of the Descent series. I'll be curious to follow this one.

I have been watching this game for a while, too bad it will only be on Xbox360 because it sure would be nice to see a space sim on PS3 smile But the persistant world will be nice and the gfx look good. Would like to experience the gameplay first hand. But overall nice game that came out of nowhere a few months ago.

The game still isn't out, but gettin closer.

Demonstration of destructibility in the game was released today:

Some recent email updates (the 2nd preceded this video)
Quote:
Hello!

I just want to give a brief update to you guys on how the game development is progressing.

1) We have finished some basic core features of the multiplayer web-code
2) Marek succesfully tested VMWare and the game works flawlessly with it - Apple and Linux users will be able to play smile
3) We are working on putting the basic elements needed for the Single-player Beta release
4) Marek is also currently working on making the installer of the game. The installer should be done until the end of the week.
5) I am still working on the Videos and hope to release it real soon. If not today then surely you will have it tommorow.

Hello guys!

As promised we have added a new video of our current alpha build. This Video features the current cockpit, basic hud, basic targeting and a rear view from the ship. It also features me making a tunnel and reaching an area in the asteroid where there is ice.
Notice that the fragments of the broken astetoids also interact with the ship. Also if you hit the fragment with a rocket then it exlodes. So be careful when firing too much in the tunnels smile.
This is first of the series of videos of gameplay features that we will be publishing roughly every week. The aim is to show you how our game is progressing and how close we actually are to the single-player beta release of our game.

You can also find the video on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aruyeiqoj4E&feature=player_embedded

Enjoy!

In our Miner Wars area on SSC, Darghan comes and chats with us every few days. And I have a Q&A I did with Marek a few months ago.

http://www.spacesimcentral.com/miner-wars-f56/

Miner Wars is starting to really shape up and working on another Q&A to submit to get some answers that don't get answered for us. I really like the SP and MMO options in the game and the ability to play over VMware is a nice touch for the people that don't have windows pc's.
