Old flick (circa 1980's) but I really thought it good and wondered if anyone else had seen it.

Of course! Good movie and great soundtrack by Mark Knopfler.

Why men throw their lives away attacking an armed Witcher... I'll never know. Something wrong with my face?

Not seen it, but I'm going to have to. The Local Hero theme is legendary! Mark Knopfler finished his last concert here with it, it was fantastic!

In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

Funny you mentioned it now. Last week I finally came around to convert the my vinyl copy of the soundtrack into mp3s. It's such tedious work. I'm a fan for all things vinyl, but need the mp3s for everyday use. And I haven't been through 2/3 of my album collection yet.

Yes! Mr. Bill Forsythe is one of my favorite directors. If you like Local Hero also check out:
Andrina
That Sinking Feeling
Gregory's Girl
Comfort and Joy (my fav BF film about a radio DJ that gets caught up in a fight between two feuding ice cream vendors)
Breaking Out
Being Human
Housekeeping (my least favorite, but worth viewing)

BF hit his stride with Gregory's Girl through Local Hero. the last three flicks come from his hollywood phase and those flicks have their BF moments but overall not as memorable.
imho,ymmv

He also made a sequel to Gregory's Girl a few years back titled sumfink like "Gregory's Girls" that I have not seen (time to head to the library website!).
