I saw this at the Movie Theater when it came out and loved it. It was up for Best Award this year, the producer was Cameron's Ex Wife.
I had my boys get it for me in Blue Ray for my Birthday, such a great movie. I couldn't believe today on the radio when one of the guys said he hated it after 2 others recommended it.

Great film, I saw it in the theater when it was first released. I'm looking forward to seeing it again. Every time I go to the supermarket I still think about a scene in this film; when James is finally home from his tour, standing in the cereal aisle unable to make a selection. Its as if 100 types of cereal are really unnecessary when you consider the true cost of war and the conditions it creates for soldiers and civilians alike. I've been buying a lot of generic cornflakes and such since then.
It was 1990, give or take, I don't remember When the news of revolution hit the air The girls hadn't even started taking down our posters When the boys started cutting off their hair The radio stations all decided angst was finally old enough It ought to have a proper home Dead, fat, or rich, nobodys left to #%&*$# About the goings on in self destructive zones

I watched it tonight. Verdict: an excellent movie. It didn't feel at all like an 'independant' film.

I've actually always got the supermarket scene as an incapacity of him to cope with that kind of choices anymore. With civilian life.
He is able to face certain death and take split-second decisions in disarming bombs but in front of the sheer amount of cereal, his brain simply lack any tips to choose.
In a way, I think, he just need danger to cope with something. Or simple decisions.
NO, anyway, seriously an amazing piece. I prepared pop corn before watching it, knowing I would love that movie. (I really loved every movie made by Mrs.Bigelow - "Strange days" over all) Well, at the end of the movie the bowl was still full, the second pop corn in my hand.
I couldn't take my eyes and my mind off the screen for a milllisecond.
Loved it. Highly recommended!

Sorry, tried to be as vague as possible.
And what is it that made him that way? It surely didn't happen spontaneously. He is a product of his environment, the split-second life & death decision reality of wartime. He's paid a price for his service, and the cereal aisle scene is not so subtle imagery addressing the fact that he may never fit into civilian life ever again because of his experiences in Iraq.

Just bought the Blu-Ray of the Hurt Locker tonight and watched it with my son. Incredible Movie. Takes balls of steel to face conditions those poor guys face. Unreal is a serious understatement. I know the Minnesota Red Bulls are returning in the next 2 weeks after over year in Basra. My wife`s best friends husband just finished his tour as a company commander. He was my best man at our wedding. Coming home with a Purple heart after 2 of his guys were killed last spring in a mortar attack. I will be there at the airport waiting for him with his wife and my wife and son along with his 2 daughters.
