They'd have to improve carrier operations to make it interesting.

Well, over at the TW forums, TK said it won't be ready in the next few months. Too bad we'll have to wait awhile.
The terrain in the second shot looks mountainous and possibly snowy. I always thought the Scandinavian peninsula would be a great setting for a Cold War flight sim, what with all the fjords to blast thru at mach 1+. You know, the Soviets invade Norway, US Navy sends carrier groups to the North Atlantic. Kind of an extended theatre for SF2:E. That's just my guess (and hope).
I also read an interview where he mentioned that WOE had by far been the most profitable of the series, so building on that would make sense. Throw in a F/A-18A, revive the A-6 that was missing from the 2 series, we could have another winner on our hands.

With the extended wing gloves in the third shot, that would make her a regular F-14A, correct? So maybe something from the mid 70's?

Nuke,
Yeah, she's a regular A-Model. The wing gloves and the exhaust nozzles of the old, underpowered TF-30s are a dead giveaway. They didn't get the more powerful F110-400 until the late 80s.
So, he's staying in that late-70s, early-80s time frame. Which is just as well. The avionics .dll files won't really adequately mimic anything newer than that.

I think those are the mountains from WOI/SF2I

Yes, that's older IAF/WOE terrain. These are just WIP shots that were taken to show the progress of the plane. The game should have a new terrain with a new terrain engine.

A new terrain engine?
Really?
That's news. I thought it was just gonna be more of the same architecture, just a different terrain. I'm probably going to be the one reviewing this game for SimHQ, so would you feel comfortable PM'ing me? If not, I'll wait to see what's going on like everyone else.

I can't get into any details as 1) Things can change and 2) TK does all the talking... I just paint the planes But he did mention that he is working on a new terrain engine in the forums, so that should be common knowledge. As far as what the terrain will look like, I'm not sure. I *think* 2010 should be a good year, but we shall see.
