Hi
Since June, there has been two occasions when the server was down when I wanted to play. Both those times it was only for a short time. I believe the devs are looking into taking out connection thing for offline play. No idea when though. But it works fine 99.98% of the time. I suppose once in a while when they are doing updates or maintenance it may be down for a short period. It is not worth missing out on this fantastic game just because of that. It really is very rare that ever happens. It sounds like you just happened upon a bad time for your trial.

I think it is well worth the $20 bucks. As of the moment for online play you have to sit on your hands for 10 minutes to get into an online game.

Is it worth while to but Rise of Flight? I downloaded the demo after Christmas when I got my TrackIR 5. I did like what I saw when could play it but 75% of the time tried to play it during the trial period I could not connect to the servers and so could not even several hours to get a feel for the game. As such I deleted the demo in frustration and decided at the time not to buy it. As I just saw a post that it is available for 20$ for a limited time can anyone convince me that I should give it another try? It's frustrating to not gain connection, but as mentioned it happens infrequently. neoqb also closes the server when loading the next patch. Could one of the times you attempted to connect been during that time? Check the news section of neoqb's site. It usually gives a days warning when they do that. I''ve had RoF since the beginning of August and have only missed a connection once. One of my primary concerns regarding RoF before my purchase was the online requirement. I'm happy to report that my experience has been unobtrusive allowing for a fun gaming experience.

As has been hinted at in various places the online connectivity for single player is going away in the near future. Don't let the current internet requirement dissuade you.
Jason OUTSTANDING. Once this gets pulled, I would be recommending it almost unreservedly.

[/quote] Oh. I'm thinking of moving to Melbourne - I've assumed you've got niceties like cable internet there - is that not the case? Depends on the suburb, Australia is pretty bad for broadband altogether. All I can get (10km from city) is 128kpbs ADSL. It's also to damn hot these days, do you just want to swap?

I've burnt mine to a DVD. It will of course be useless if the RoF servers stop for any reason
No it won't Keith for offline play if the rumours of an offline mode (as mentioned by Jason) are true

I just found out that I still have the "RoF_Web_Install" file for the demo in my download folder but I can't get it to install. It has somehow become associated with 7-zip and wants to extract like its a file archive rather than an .EXE file. Some help please. What is the extension of the file? Try Right-click and select Properties - might give a clue (In Explorer click Tools, Folder Options, select the View tab and clear the Hide Extensions for Known Filetypes box to permanently see file extensions) Cheers, Keith

I just re-downloaded it and purchased the upgrade. Thanks anyway.
Looking at the aircraft bundles they are not that bad if you think about it. Back when MechWarrior 4 was out they had two mech packs that each added 4 BattleMechs and a weapon for $20 so 8 mechs and 2 weapons was $40. With all four bundles it is $48.80. Taking into around 10 years of inflation it is probably about the same cost.
