oh man...my favorite ever space sim. damn near perfect. loved the music, the combat, the cut scenes, the balance of plot & free form, the graphics, the newtonian physics. the list goes on and on.

"they came..."

Cool!

I loved it too, even though due to very timely pc-breakdowns and so on I never managed to finish it.

Actually I still don't know if there was the chance to change spaceship...

yeah, you can change ships, but the cockpit interface stays the same, which is fine w/ me. the idea is that the cockpit unit attaches to different ships, hence the uniform cockpit look, which is fine b/c it looks very good. god, that game more than any other cries out for a sequel. <wipes tear from eye>

for my money, iwar2 is the best trade/combat space sim ever made. better than freespace 2, which is no mean feat.

Iwar2 is also on top of my Space Sim games. Alongsides X-Wing series and the original Elite on C64.

Friends... You bring tears to my eyes! ^_^ I'm not alone!
Thanks!

@MadDog: I still have all the X-Wing, Tie FIghter, all sort of expansion, and most of all X-Wing Alliance. THAT was a piece of game!
And around you find stuff like this --> http://www.xwaupgrade.com/

Last year I went through a ton of these games looking for the right one. This one really was my favorite. Had it all, great graphics (even though it was one of the oldest I bought), story, open navigation, physics, weapons...just a lot of fun. I'm sure I wasn't far into it at all when I had drive problems and ended up swapping out. I played this thing on my NETBOOK and it ran like a dream! So fun having that game and having it portable as well. I still need to try to recover that and pick it up. Enjoyed it even more than Freespace 2 since it was so deep *and* a great cockpit view. Loved hitting escort ships with an EMP missiles, then taking it out and robbing the cargo ship. LOL
I need to see how that story plays out too.

Guys, are you all crazy. As EVERYONE knows, Battlecruiser 3000ad is the greatest space warfare game possible. Not only did you have the battles inside the game (including the battles to get this game even running cuss2 ) but all the battles surrounding this game. The game came with it own set of flame wars. boom

Seriously, I remember IWar 2 very fondly and still have it somewhere.

Jerry

btw, if you still have I-War II, your only a couple of google searches away from some great mods.

true, there were some good mods for it. i-war 3...sigh. sadly, we don't live in that kind of gaming marketplace anymore (consoles! <cough-cough>)

Might as well blame gamers in general, we're the ones buying consoles. The market follows the trend. wink

However, I'm thinking maybe pc's will see a resurgence with MS and Sony making it so hard for unique games to come to market...not to mention be maintained with patches and content. PC games can sell for years, console games are a success or dead in 2 months and the sold only as used games. With BOP/WOP...I think WOP will be the more successful in the long run, as well as better.

There is still a decent mod being developed for I-War2 called Torn Stars. It's been a few weeks since the last update but it is a huge mod and the devs chat about at SSC. I-War series of games are definitely worth getting for all those that love the genre.
