That wasn't my point. I've seen much worse.

Actually, my question wasn't wether someone should or should not be ALLOWED to post such a picture.
It was why anyone would WANT to.

Have you ever posted a picture here? Did you ever consider that some people might wonder why you decided to? It was a picture of a fox that had been killed during a hunt. Big deal. Was the "Warning, dead animal" in the thread title not specific enough?

Foxes are vermin and people that complain about the culling of vermin are ignorant of standard farming practices. Ever seen what a fox will do to a chicken-coup full of chickens? You wouldn't want to see a picture of that believe me.

Do you have any more pictures Jensen? It's hard to get a sense of scale.

Controlling deer over-population?

The first question is how did the over-population happen.

Could it be the killing of the animals that prey on those deer?

shan, I have to ask. If you don't hunt with a firearm or a bow, what do you hunt with?

It was usually nets or box traps for small game and deadfall traps for things larger than a rabbit. We didn't have the money/technology to make other kinds of traps. Snares were unheard of. You could either bait the deadfall, or flush the animal towards it.

Weapons like spears, knives, bare hands are a great way to put yourself at risk when the animal is fighting for its life.

(Feral pigs were a problem in the rice paddies. But even the small ones could do some serious damage to a human. They were nocturnal and were a real pain in the ass to catch.)

edit:

It's amazing the damage a single pig can do to a paddy. They also multiply like rabbits. They weren't very well tolerated by the farmers.

edit2:

One of my first memories of "meat" was a hairy black pig ear from a stew. Heck, who knew it was really cartilage? biggrin

More like the killing of the animals that preyed on those deer AND on cattle, sheep, chickens, goats, the occasional child, horses, etc. As much as I admire & respect predators, when they start preying on my livelihood THEY become the prey.

No, really, it wasn't that bad. If you add enough kimchee, everything more or less tastes the same... wink

The Parade: Two foxes, one nice big hare for Christmas, and four pheasants. The children were quite unsentimental.

Holy cow, that's one huge hare! Or else the foxes are midgets LOL. Looks like you have enough pheasant there for quite a feast, too.

I took the picture with my phone so its a bit distorted. But it was an unusually big hare. And it was retrieved by a small field trial Cocker Spaniel! All of the game goes to my neighbour. I only shot once, got a pheasant.

Makes me want to go quail hunting. I am also amazed at the size of that hare!
