I have been feeling old lately. I am 49 and a year away from the big 50. About a week and a half ago, I decided I was going to make a change, so I am growing a beard. It's a close cropped one and about an inch and a half wide going down the side of my face and around my jawline to my goatee. I noticed that it is salt and pepper in color, being probably 60% salt.

I went out to eat last night at Golden Corral, which is basically a buffet style place. I got up there in line and the cashier looked at and said ... "Over 60?"

I think I am going to shave the beard when I get home from work tonight because this never happened before I grew it. The goatee may go now too...LOL.

So what's the last thing that made you feel old?

Staring in the mirror this morning and noticing less hair. Dang hereditary hair loss. Comb-overs before hitting 30 is just wrong.

jamming with some younger guys.........they want to do some "vintage" tunes from before they were born.....and you realize that you played these tunes in high school when they were in the "top 10"

Comb-overs at any age is just wrong. This is why I keep my hair cut down to nubs. That way it looks intentional and a fashion statement as opposed to just looking like I am going bald.

Seems like I lost a lot of hair when I was around 22 or so. I'd blow dry my hair and the sink would be covered with a blanket of deserters. Then, for whatever reason, it stopped. I still have my hair at age 59 and it's still naturally brown. The mustache has a lot of gray though! There used to be this guy at a gym I went to and I swam a lot back then. He asked me what kind of dye I used in my hair that all the chlorine didn't change color. lol! He didn't believe me when I said no dye.

What makes me feel old? One of the first signs I remember is that police and firemen and doctors started looking like kids to me. In comparison, I guess they were.

A week or so back, I had right at a full weeks beard growth. And the number of purely white whiskers surprised me.

The hair on top has been thinning for 10 years. But it's not bad, nothing to cover or hide. Just thin. Both grandfathers had balding, but Dad has a very robust head of hair. So who knows where it will go.

Getting a lap dance at a strip joint and having said stripper ask what would you do if your daughter wanted to work at a strip joint....

Now, what made this even more depressing is my wife was sitting 3 feet from me (she took me and some buddies to the strip joint for my birthday. Yes, I *love* my wife :-)) and she absolutely busted up laughing...

I got even with the wife, as I bought the next lap dance for her. :-)

I used to have these moments where I felt old.....

Maybe I am, but I reflect and see how much I've crammed into my time so far, and I'm proud.

Kindest regards,

I TOTALLY refuse to believe that's a sign of old age- it's just a sign of good taste! wink

Bah! You're not bald! You're just taller than your hair! Look at it this way: God only made so many perfect heads. The rest he covered with hair!

Do like I do. Shave your head, then shine it up with a good high gloss car wax. The sun will reflect off it and blind people in oncoming traffic, but it sure looks good!

Cheers!

Rick... hahaha

This year, for the first time in my life, I've experienced being the older guy in a work crew who can't quite keep up with the twentysomethings. (I'm doing some really physical work these days)

There's no actual OUTPUT difference mind you, but I can pretty clearly tell they're not quite as tired as I am at the end of the day.

A few years ago, I was riding the elevator at work when one of the paralegals, a very cute female, stepped in wearing a black pantsuit over a black open collar shirt. Bear in mind that this was before the movie "Walk the Line" ever came out.

I looked over at her and said "Hey you're dressed just like Johnnie Cash!"

To which she replied "Who's Johnnie Cash?"

Made me feel pretty old!
