One line anyway to the old Vought plant. Don't blame them the workers always on strike here.

Yup, cannot blame Boeing for relocating the HQ and now an assembly line to stay competitive with government subsidized airbus. No unions, reduced taxes, reduced cost of living in SC? Increase of jobs in SC along with an uplift to the community! wtg!

It's basically the same outsourcing phenonenon but this time its from one State to another instead of from one country to another. And yeah, Washington is definitely a much higher cost of living and higher tax State compared to South Carolina so the move made business sense.

It's purely a strategic move. When the Boeing bombers come rolling off the line it will be less distance to travel to bomb Toulouse..

They're to build a new building next to the existing ones too. Had great views of a Dreamlifter in June around media day there. The 787 plants are right next to the commercial terminal smile

Boeing moves to SlowChat? Welll... that explains the delays with the 787 biggrin

Oh, South Carolina.

Patrocles, Boeing is at least as subsidised as Airbus. It's just disguised as military contracts, space contracts etc. The 170 million they receive from SC is only the tip of the iceberg.

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the universe is for it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more inexplicable.
There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

Given the recent spate of government bailouts/handouts, I think that any hint of a move toward an international trade/tariff war over government subsidisation of industry would open an enormous can of worms and would be extremely unwise.

I was born and raised in Rhode Island and ventured down to South Carolina to attend college. I currently reside in Myrtle Beach and have many friends who reside in Charleston where Boeing has moved (beautiful city btw). I was elated when I heard this news, as I have been looking to move down to Charleston for more gainful employment. Currently have a buddy who works for SPAWAR who is trying to get an in for me. Believe it or not, South Carolina is becoming like Florida. Retirees are opting for SC and also young alike. Up north is just too damn expensive, thats why I may have found my new home (no more snow!). Yes Im not a southerner, but I feel for alot of southerners who catch the stereotype of being inbred rednecks. Ive met more sophisticated, polite, intelligent southerners that I have more respect for than where I've grown up in north amongst just as many ignorant, loud mouth, know it alls. On the contrary, I have more friends and run-ins with people from all over the country in this state. Its just the politicians that screw it up (literally!)

I don't see any mention of how many new jobs will be available in S.C. or the number lost in Washington.

Charleston is a great town with a real Southern charm and a civilized pace. Walking through the old town and the beautiful parks is like a time travel experience.
