I've released a new island for ArmA2, so if you're bored with Chernarus (South Zagoria) give it a try. Its based on real data from NW Region of Slovenia, Europe.

Looks really nice, more mountainous than Chenarus, and I like the attempt to create rivers.

Is it worse on framerate than the original island? And safe for AI to play with?

AI performs well and framerate should be better.

Looks good. I'll take a look at it.

I flew around the island a bit tonight and I like what I saw. The rivers are cool, I don't know why BIS couldn't have done something similar. The roads, buildings and bridges looked good and the many mountains and valleys reminded me of the northern half a Sarahni from Arma 1. Also the frame rates looked to be in the 50's or 60's - for me at least.

I did notice a few texture anomalies and I got a "can not load such-and-such.paa" when I was flying up north. I thought I took screenshots of those things but when I closed Arma I realized I had forgotten to start FRAPS up so I don't have those shots. If it would be useful to you IceBreakr I could probably find those things again.

The reason BIS didn't do rivers like that is that they are basically "sea" inlands. They have waves and everything that a river doesn't have. And they are always on sea level. But I agree the effect is positive enough (also tactically interesting) that the downsides are not as bad.

In theory with the A2 ability to have water on the map at any alt above sea level, "standing" rivers should also be doable, but would likely look a tad stupid.

Glad to hear it works well on frames and AI, this will be the first addon I load on my new system.

Biff: don't worry, these bugs were already squished as 2.2 is coming out any day now smile we did internal squad testing of 2.1 (internal only release) and here's a changelog:

Internal Beta v2.1:
- project now runs from 3 .pbo files (ibr_rn.pbo, ibr_plants.pbo and panthera2.pbo) no more CAA1 interference
- replace majority of planted trees with "ILuvGreen" ones to make a summer look
- removed palm tree from desert road
- added missing paas and removed errors like: hand_okna_ca.paa
- cut down couple of trees near town Most na Soci
- added new villages of Livek and Radovna
- improved make-shift runway in Bovec
- several road and terrain height fixes
STILL OPEN ISSUES:
- gas station Schnell doesn't explode, config bug
- no server keys added yet
- resolve bumpmapping issue with pebble texture (replace)
- further improvement of grassy fields in sat texture
- landing points ILS (need help with that, how to read coordinates and make config for all 4 big airports!)

Sounds good! Once this is finalized this island may be a good one to add to the SimHQ server.

Is there any legacy stuff or the CAA1 mod needed for 2.2? Or is it really self contained?

I just tried it. Works pretty well. I am amazed at how he can have so many enterable buildings and yet it runs about 10 fps better than Chernarus (at least for me). Lots of interesting variety and cool features, I loved the shipwreck. The settlements and rivers are really professionally done.

Some cons... I don't like the desert area very much - the transition to it is quite sudden, it's very hilly throughout, and the footstep sound doesn't match up with the sand. The mountains look kind of stupid at a distance, since the trees don't render unless you're very close or your view distance is jacked. The ambient civilian & vehicle modules are not working - a minor annoyance.

Just played some on the new Panthera, and it's nice. I like how many little villages there are, and how many open buildings too.

Good observations fatty. I also think some of the terrain colors in the distance might be more subtle. I don't like how you can see the photo texture so close up, then walk a short distance and it vanishes. Also, some of the coastline is very steep. If it was feathered out into a nice flat beach with some places to build checkpoints and make shore landings, it would be great.

Here are two shots from the same area, one looking north, the other south.

Beautiful green ground that match the trees to while looking north:

But looking south, the ground is almost blue:
