Heck, he can't be any worse than Affleck, right?

Can't be any worse than Affleck. I still think they should remake Clear & Present Danger. That is my favourite Clancy book. They really, really didn't do the book justice at all. The next time around they should include Red Wegener, one of my all-time favourite Clancy characters, and the Panache, and more political stuff, that shows what an incompetent jerk Admiral Cutter really was in that book. Let me fuel the fire of debate again..who should play John Clark? My vote goes to Eric Bana or Clive Owen, or maybe Christian Bale. I've started thinking he would be great as Clark in the Without Remorse movie!

I think I'd like to see a faithful rendition of "Debt of Honor" done as a movie. It's got one of the most unlikely scenarios one could imagine, it's got both American AND Japanese politics, and those asshats Ritter & Cutter are out of the picture. Now, which hottie MILF-type do we get to play Mary Pat Foley? LOL
I can't help thinking that Daniel Craig would make a good Clark. If only Ernest Borgnine was 30 years younger, he'd make the perfect retired Portagee!

They did get some roles cast just perfectly. There will never be another Admiral Greer than James Earl Jones, and the guy that played Ding Chavez in C&PD was perfect for the role. Whenever I read the books now I picture those two as the characters in the books.

Whenever I read the books now I picture those two as the characters in the books. I second those votes. Those two were the best (Raymond Cruz was the other one). I can't say enough about how much they were. Hell, even the Rainbow Six video game avatar for Chavez had a likeness of Cruz. I saw Clear and Present Danger again on Sunday and I still liked that movie (and Ford as Ryan). I thought Clark was played well by Dafoe--he doesn't match the description of Clark in the book, but I'm tired of the Hollywood SEAL image being big muscle bound dudes so Dafoe makes it more believable to me--hey he's way better than Liev Schriber! I also realized that I liked Benjamin Bratt as CAPT Ramirez. I love the scene when they blow up the drug lab. Wunderbar! And one of my fave lines: "The chicken is in the pot." "Cook it." heh. The GBU scene was great too. "Circular error probable zero. Impact with high-order detonation. Have a nice day." <shiver>! v6, boNes

I think Harrison ford played a good jack ryan in the two movies he did...or was it three? Two. Clear & Present Danger and Patriot Games. I thought Ford was pretty good as Ryan but in my opinion I think the main problem were the movies themselves. Part of the problem is that Hunt for Red October was just such a fantastic film that it made it a very hard act to follow. Besides, while I admire Ford's work, I think Alec Baldwin made a better Ryan.

I always thought Baldwin was too pretty boyish to play Ryan, vs. Ford who was more brash.
Yes, Michael Biehn was great as a SEAL (don't forget him as a SEAL in "The Abyss"). I really liked his role in "The Rock" despite what happened.
You know what I think would be a great SEAL movie if it was done in the same way as "Black Hawk Down?" One about the Battle of Roberts Ridge.

Tom Clancy = Better books than Movies. He's right up there with Steven King's adaptations IMO.
But I'd love to see a Clancy book done right in movies. Without Remorse wood make for a good movie but it might be too predictable because of the typical plot.
I've got a bad feeling about this.....

Speaking of King adaptions, I thought the mini series on TV for The Stand was very good. I know they had to omit some stuff because it wouldn't have been passed by the censors, but overall, still a great adaption. I was really surprised. It is probably my favorite book of all time. I have read it many times.
