Cheers for asking that Klem, I assume the switcher will be of no use with this final patch as it's not available for selection??

S! and a big "Thank You!" to Team Daidalos and Maddox Games for their hard work in bringing the superb content of 4.09 to us. It's great to see there's plenty of life left in IL-2 Sturmovik:1946 as we wait for Storm of War: Battle of Britain.
Now will someone please make a Regina Aeronautica SM.79 torpedo bomber campaign?

Klem, I installed the new patch and the new skins right over my old install, and it didn't affect my modded game at all. Like I said , though, the new patch doesn't put any of the new stuff in to your modded game. I saw a screenie of an sm79 that some one did, showing the plane over the Thames in what looked like Canons map. Don't know how he did that because I don't have any of the new 4.09 planes in my modded game. That said, however, it doesn't really bother me because I don't have any intention of flying the new planes, I really only installed the patch because I want to be up to date for playing on-line. And yeah, just switch back to unmodded 4.08 before you put the 4.09 patch back in. That's really all there is to remember. Peice of cake!

Thanks Aviar, downloaded from site you noted in about 13 minutes without a problem. Checked out the skins download and all were over a half hour or much more. Will wait for skin sites cool a little. BadBud www.simflite.com

Hi Brummer (and Pooch)
So, I will switch to 4.08 using the AAA switcher, THEN install the 1C Maddox 4.09 final patch, THEN copy (that's COPY) the files: files.SFS fb_3do19.SFS fb_3do20.SFS fb_maps15.SFS
from the game folder to a /4.09 final/ folder I have made under /_Game Switchers/ (as these will then be the '4.09 final' ones)
Then I'll create a batch file to copy /IL-2 Sturmovik 1946/_Game Switcher/4.09 final/*.* (all files) to the game folder and I'll put a shortcut to the batch file on my desktop.
So anytime I want to use 4.09 final I switch to 4.08 (to be sure to remove the mods files) then run the batch file which will copy the '4.09 final' files to the game folder. Then to get back to any other version I just use the AAA switcher.
Is that correct?
Sorry if I am labouring the point but I want to be sure not to screw up my installation and I will be recommending the solution to my Squad mates.
EDIT:
The AAA switcher also copies in/out the il2fb.exe. Does the 4.09m have a different .exe to 4.08m (the Mods .exe is a different size).
Thanks
klem

I would love to patch this up but rather confused...I can understand as far as "switch to 4.08 using the AAA switcher, THEN install the 1C Maddox 4.09 final patch"...the rest is a fly-by for me...
Is there an idiots guide?

Brummer, that SAS is a great site. Just went and registered. I'm going to hold off on using the SAS switcher for the moment, only because I fly on-lne a lot, and don't want to lose my 4.08 install. The way I'm doing it now, I still have all three, 4.08, modded 409b, and the new 4.09 final. When I see that all of the servers have switched over, I'll go ahead and use that. Thanks.

I have the same problem as shurem above. Installed the 4.09 patch over the 4.09 Beta. When I click the il2fb.exe or il2.exe I only get the hourglass symbol for a few seconds followed by nothing. Tried running the setup program and set the graphics options to "Safe" or "Default", but no luck. Replaced the "conf.ini" with a copy I saved from a fresh install of IL2 1946. No cigar. Never had any problems with an update until now. *Sigh* If anyone have some good ideas to get IL2 running I'd be very grateful. On a more positive note - Hey, first post! I've thus finally registered to the SimHQ forums I've been reading for years for news and entertainment. <- (token smilie)

Try locating the older mg_snd.dll and mg_snd_sse.dll. Apparently the newer ones supplied by Maddox Games cause a few issues with a few kinds of hardware. I saw one listed at Mission4today.com.

Would these few kinds of hardware possibly include AMD AthlonXP CPU's (the old ones with a single core) by any chance?
:edit: Replaced the mg_snd.dll and mg_snd_see.dll with the previous versions from the 4.09 Beta. No luck. After failing to start the game, I also replaced the il2_core.dll and il2_corep4.dll in the chance that they were the culprit. Again no luck. Just an hourglass for a few seconds and then the nothingness of my desktop to stare at.

Yup, AMDs are among the affected. The same happened to me with the Beta. As I said M4T has a DLL Pack from 4.08 and that one should work.

Guys, don't install it on top of you 4.09 beta! Switch to 4.08 unmodded and then install it.Works fine.

Disco! The advice from csThor was just what the doctor ordered. Downloaded the old dll's from M4T and replaced the mg_snd.dll + mg_snd_sse.dll (but retained the il2_core.dll and il2_corep4.dll from the 4.09 package) and now everything works like a charm. Happiness! Link to old dll'd at M4T just in case someone else stumbles across this thread with the same problem: http://mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads&get=3768Many thanks to team Daidalus and all the persons involved in creating this stellar update to IL2! Just started up the Slowakia summer map from the improved QMB, and I'm planning to spend some quality time over that place. Very nice map. Still a bunch more to explore. Good times ahead. :-)
