I would try reinstalling DX 9 and see if that fixes the issue. You can go to the Direct X section on the Microsoft website and download it.

Have you tried to update directx?

Might get that file into the right place! It certainly wont hurt.

Cheers!

Edit PM sneaked in there first!

it is asking where to unzip the files to. create a folder and choose it as the destination. after the file unzips open that folder and click on the dxsetup.exe file to install DX9. after it is installed you can delete the folder you unzipped the setup files to, if you want to.

Thank you again chaps have downloaded and installed Directx9,still getting the same error message, however I noticed on the Black Shark installation Disk it has it's own direct x which it installs fine but I also note it recommends switching it on? this a bit of a puzzle, had many flight sims on various machines over the years don't ever recall having to switch Direct X on? installed LOMAC a few days ago and that runs fine.
Again gbe greatful for any help here

i have windows XP. i searched my computer for a file named DXDX9_38.dll and i don't have it either, but Black Shark runs fine.

i do have a file named D3DX9_38.dll in the C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder.

you can un-install BS and then re-install it without losing an activation. that might be worth a try.

Managed to instal the file in the directx folder in system 32,I can now open black shark but nothing works I get a windows message saying problem with DCS EXE and has had to close the prog, the prog continues to load until the selection screen appears If I clock on any of them ie missions I just get taken to the debrief screen? already installed and deleted the whole thing three times now.
Might it do some good if I deleted the entire Directx folder in sys32 and replace it with the version I downloaded?

Tony I dont think dirrect x is a bunch of files to be removed like that its not a stand alone exe file or program I expect it has registery intergreation is quite an important aspect of your system and intergrates.

I know its harsh but I always recommend to start a fresh some times, IE reload your windows, load your drivers, install your anti virus, connect to windows updates, update your computer with the latest drivers from the web.

If you have two drives in your computer copy all your stuff and files to the second drive and reload wipe your c drive and start again.

Putting that to the side for a minute go here: http://www.updatexp.com/directx-diagnostic-tool.html

Thats a tool that is ment to display important dirrect x info, that maybe of some help or may just ask more questions.

Post back, reload your system may provide some speed improvement as well, that is if you dont regulary run defrags.

What is the spec of your gpu and cpu btw?

Dual core AMD2.6 4 gig ddr2 ram Nvidia graphic, cant remember the number but it's got a gig of ram,the machine is up to snuff for the prog, sorted the direct X prob I think, begining to think it's a activation problem, anybody know what the symptoms are if you try to run the prog unactivated?
Keep getting the message dcs exe ran into a prob and windows has shut it down,as I said it continues to load but will not let me fly, click on a mission or instant action it goes through a loading procedure then displays the debrief screen,
I liked sims when life was simple

After activation it should give you a confirmation by supplying you with a count of how many activations you have left.

Checked in the Black shark folder bin it says activation successful, going to try installing it on a clean hard disk, always keep a spare outside the machine.
Thanks for the help ,I shall report back, incidently running Win XP Pro SP 2, would downloading SP 3 do any good, if that is possible of course?.
Don't think it is a windows prob,LOMAC and Falcon 4 run just fine

reading a manual is all the joy I will get I reckon,I give up on it waste of 25 quid, exactly the same problem on a clean hard disk.
Must be a duff installation DVD,I seem to recall having a similar problem with LOMAC flaming cliffs had to return the CD

Progress report, got new hard disk, formatted loaded windows xp pro, loaded graphic card drives sound card drivers ect ect just the bare necessities,my version of window was a tad long in the tooth so I downloaded SP3 and ran it,stick the black shark disk in the drive and it loaded, only difference this time when it loaded the directx files it actually did load them, anyway the prog ran ok, asked for the serial number which it accepted but when I tried to run Black Shark it said only one inst allowed,I assume this is because I had installed it on a different hard disk first,so went back to the original disk, downloaded and installed SP3 on that, reinstalled Black Shark and yup Black Shark is now running.
Trouble is want to install and run it from the new disk, will I have to deactivate it on the first disk then reactivate it on the new disk?

I don't know if this will help or not. I know I can't really help on the look of the activation problem. They made it pretty clear it wouldn't run without activation. I run a dual boot and run my flight sims on the XP side. Also no internet from that side of the boot so I had to do the manual activation from the Vista partition. It was a little strange but worked and it came up fine.

On the DX9 issue. I thought my XP partition already had DX9 so I cancelled the DX9 install with Black Shark. I don't exactly remember what it said but it let me know it was having issues finding DX9. I checked and found that I had DX8 in XP. So I uninstalled everything (Blackshark) and reinstalled and let it do its DX9 thing. Activated and it came up smoothly. Buddha is absolutely right DX whatever is tightly integrated, you cannot just put some folders in some location and expect it to work. I would suggest you uninstall Blackshark, reinstall saying yes to the DX9 prompts, and activate. If that doesn't work you might be faced with a re-build if it's worth it to you.

Hope it helps. Good luck.

Another slightly off topic question if I may, pottering about with the Sim hitting keyboard on random keys as one does rather than read the manual,a night time mission I got what appeared to be night vision goggles I could see every thing in the darkness, yet looking at the keyboard commands I downloaded I cannot find which key activates the night vision thing, someone here must know wither key one has to clout.?
PS tiz a great sim, when I think of what puter graphics used to be like this is magic, one still prefers fast pointy things with fixed wings though.
Thanks for the help chaps.
