Tried configuring a fresh install of SFP1 with the Korean Air War mod, and for some reason I'm having two issues.

1. The terrain (I used the updated Korea terrain) isn't showing up properly, and yet when I downloaded, it I ensure that it was zipped to the terrain folder. I started a single mission and my F-80 was sitting on grass. Anyone have any theories on why? Perhaps there's a part of the terrain I'm missing? (For the record in the big Korean Air War Mod download, I didn't see any terrain included, thus I used the updated set via another download.

2. The buttons on the main menu screen don't seem to work. Any ideas as to why? I thought I put the files from the big download into the fight category.

3. This one is simple I'm sure, but can someone point me to the adding ground objects tutorial? I can't seem to find it after searching all over the knowledge base at Combatace.

Thanks for any and all help.

The Korean Air Mod is OLD.

A lot of stuff for it isn't compatible with the newest versions of the ThirdWire Gen 1 sims (Oct 08) patch.

I haven't tried this yet, but goto CA and download this:

http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=9777

It's an update that supposedly fixes the Korean Air War mod to SP4 standards (Oct 08).

Guess it serves me right for being out of the series for so long that I was out of the loop.

Thanks Fastcargo, I'll give that download a shot.

If this turns out to be correct, I'll add it to the readme for the file I posted at CA. Until then, this is what I "think" one would have to do to get a working KAW install.

1. Install SFP1
2. Patch to '06 level (you can probably find that patch at CA or ask someone there for it if you can't find it)
3. Install Bunyap's weapons pack.
4. Install this:

http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=1494

5. Install this, making sure to follow the directions included with it:

http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=3329

Quote:
Here is the Korean Air War Mod Terrain and Campaign Update.

My thanks go to TK for such a great sim, FNG2k for his groundbreaking work in this area, and especially Charles, Capun and Gramps (the A-Team) for all their help and support.

This is a redone Korea Terrain and Campaign V2.0. I used all new tiles plus got rid of all those "sea mountains"and fixed the water and runways to give them a more 1950's look.

Special thanks to Polak for his water mod, which I have adapted for this terrain. I stongly recommend you download and use Polak's sky mod with this terrain as well.

Installation

1. Delete your old Korea Folder in the Terrain Folder and replace it with this new one.

2. Delete the old Korean War Folder in the Campaign Folder and replace it with this one.

3. Fly.

4. Install my update from CA
5. Go to the cold war/props section of the CA aircraft downloads and install wrench's F4U.

I think that should do it. I haven't played this mod in a year or so, and it's been even longer since I did whatever I did to get it to work, so I'm just going by what makes sense.

Aw man...it's only an 06 level mod update? Bummers...would be nice to play it with the Oct 08 patch update. Much more aggressive AI...

You think it will work with an 08 patch malibu?

Well, if there are issues with the '08 level, my update won't (and wasn't intended to) fix those issues. My update was just intended to get the thing to work with the '06 patch, which was still the latest when I originally installed KAW.

If there are issues with the '08 patch, I would think they would be problems with the flight models for the prop aircraft (just like all the other '08 patch issues). I think there was some line you could add to the data.ini that might help with some of that stuff (stall something or other). Of course there would also be issues with canopies opening and ground steering being backwards that are common with older aircraft in the '08 patch.

At one point, I think wrench was working on completely re-building the KAW mod, but I think that stalled...

So, in short, I think '06 patch level is all we have for now.

*edit* - you could always just do a second install with an '08 patch and see how it goes.

Oh ok well perhaps I should just wait and see if anything ever comes of an 08 update to KAW. I'd prefer to play it with all the latest features.

Thanks a lot for your responses, and hopefully something will come of a KAW update.

Would be cool if TK did a new sim in the series based on Korea, but I doubt that will ever happen.

Hello retro simmers! A bit of a Thread Resurrection here.

I was inspired by Schwalbe's excellent SF2 AAR here: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/4063334/1

to try and install the Korean Air War Mod for the Strike Fighters 1 series.

I got a good working install with very little trouble, just one nagging issue that I hope some of you experts can help with. Reported issues all with SINGLE MISSION loadouts. Haven't tried a CAMPAIGN, but I don't think that matters.

If you don't want to read through this long post here is my main question. But maybe you should read it so you don't suggest something already tried. deadhorse wink

Click to reveal..
The bottom line is I have working Korean Air War installs on both the 06 and 08 patch levels of SF:P1, but the weapons/loadouts are still a bit off. Wondering what the 'latest weapons pack' was at the time of mod creation. Oddly, NONE of the weapons packs seem to have the appropriate fuel tanks. Usually there are some "add this to the Weapondata.ini" lines but I couldn't find it. I do have various other Sabre packs that I could retrofit, but I wanted to stay true to the original mod.

Haven't tried Malibu's patch:

http://combatace.com/files/file/9777-korean-air-war-ground-object-and-campaign-update/

yet, but so far my ground objects and terrain seem to be ok....even at the 08 patch level.

Read on!!!

I keep relatively clean installs of SF:P1 with either the 06 patch level and 08 patch level that I copy to create new modded installs. Note that I am not 100% sure how clean they are, so I should probably do a "from scratch install" to be sure...but be that as it may:

First attempt:

Took my clean 08 install (as I hadn't read THIS thread yet) and followed the instructions in the KAW readme from this mod:

http://combatace.com/files/file/1494-korean-air-war-complete-mod/

Since there was an update which contained terrain here:

http://combatace.com/files/file/3329-korean-war-mod-update/

I used the TERRAIN and CAMPAIGN files directly from the latter mod.

When it came the Weapons Pack, I was somewhat at a loss as the original mod was quite old, so I wasn't sure what weapons pack to use. I decided to go for the LATEST I could find, which was a Mirage Factory SFP_WOE Weapons pack circa 2012. (I can't find this version at CombatAce, so maybe it was really the 2009 one here:

http://combatace.com/files/file/8130-mirage-factory-weapons-pack-01252009/

I then followed the rest of the KAW instructions.

Magically, everything worked!! The only issue was loadouts. MOST jets had what seemed to be period correct loadouts, but none of the aircraft had any tanks. I looked in the various .ini files and the tanks specified were NOT in the OBJECTS/WEAPONS folders.

For most jets, the loads were various types of 750 lb Bombs and 5" HVAR. In the .ini files, there were 500 lb bombs specified for many loadouts (STRIKE, ARMED RECON etc..). SOME jets had no stores available.

I did try using a Weapons Editor and loading/saving the Weapondata.ini to no avail.

Second attempt:

Same as the first, but instead of the MirageFactory Weapons pack, I used the Bunyap Weapons Pack from 2006:

http://combatace.com/files/file/2672-weapons-pack-03-jul-06/

This also worked, and gave me a lot of additional weapons (though including many non-period weapons) and still no tanks.

Tried another Community Weapons pack:

http://combatace.com/files/file/7791-weapons-pack-252-by-the-wosfp1-community/

Which didn't give me ANY stores, but I don't know if I opened the WEAPONDATA.ini

Third attempt and variants

Same as the first, but this time, after reading this thread, I used an 06 install rather than an 08 patch level.

Essentially the same results w/re to weapons packs, but I THINK the latest Mirage Factory pack didn't work (too new for the 06 patch??)

I was also I was inspired by Schwalbe's excellent SF2 AAR.

What would I need to play that? I don't have any of the Strike Fighter series, so does it matter which one I would need to purchase?
Also is the Korea mod all in one, or is there a "dance" to load mods?

Thanks in advance.

Piper. it's all in one. The mod would probably work in a limited fashion with just the SF2 base game, but I doubt you could work the campaign and carrier take-offs would be ruled out. The QMB should still be feasible and it's a very good one. If you try this, be sure to change the line in the terrain Korea3.ini, Naval Map = to FALSE, or the map probably won't load.

Nice to be missed smile Haven't been doing much simming lately, but this Windmill Tilt to get Korean Air War running got me back in the saddle a bit. Eugene got me started back with BMS as well, to get some cockpit time but I am starting near the bottom of the learning curve again after so much time away.

Still don't have the Strike Fighters 1 Korean Air War 100%. Problem is finding all the OLD patches and Weapons Packs to get it to run. I have it running pretty well, but haven't tried the campaign so I don't know what might be missing.

Some weapons and tanks are missing in loadouts, but there are enough there that it is flyable.
