I'm planning on getting this one too, glad it's moving along. Looks like a fun casual game.

there are some youtube clips of it. basically you design the ships by placing different weapons, engines, reactors, defenses, etc... then customize the orders & deploy them as you wish. the battle is fully autonomous based on what you designed and your orders.

some vids here:

GSB is looking very good and I hope to buy/preorder this one shortly because the game is very moddable and will prolong playability. On SSC I have a short Q&A with cliffski people might be interested in http://www.spacesimcentral.com/general-space-sim-chat-f10/gratuitous-space-battles-t463.html

That is hilarious and awesome! It looks like the developer went back to the original Master of Orion by Microprose from 1993(?) and took out everything that didn't have to do with the big space fleet battles. Very cool. When it's done, I'll probably order it.

Thanks for posting this!

I just saw that Impulse picked it up...

I have been playing it for the last few weeks and it's very well done. In fact the latest updates have added a few new ship components as well. I think the beta is up to 1.11 which I wouldn't be surprised if it's the initial release version.

I own two of his previous games and bought this the second it entered into the open-beta stage(I.e. people who pre-ordered got free access to the beta version of the game), it's a truly great game, and very fun.

I might also add, that when the final release version of the game comes, it will be priced higher than it currently is, kinda like Mount and Blade was, where the development version of the game(which included free update to the final) was comparatively cheap to the final retail version.
