Hello retro simmers! A bit of a Thread Resurrection here.
I was inspired by Schwalbe's excellent SF2 AAR here:
http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/4063334/1to try and install the Korean Air War Mod for the Strike Fighters 1 series.
I got a good working install with very little trouble, just one nagging issue that I hope some of you experts can help with. Reported issues all with SINGLE MISSION loadouts. Haven't tried a CAMPAIGN, but I don't think that matters.
If you don't want to read through this long post here is my main question. But maybe you should read it so you don't suggest something already tried.
The bottom line is I have working Korean Air War installs on both the 06 and 08 patch levels of SF:P1, but the weapons/loadouts are still a bit off. Wondering what the 'latest weapons pack' was at the time of mod creation. Oddly, NONE of the weapons packs seem to have the appropriate fuel tanks. Usually there are some "add this to the Weapondata.ini" lines but I couldn't find it. I do have various other Sabre packs that I could retrofit, but I wanted to stay true to the original mod.
Haven't tried Malibu's patch:
http://combatace.com/files/file/9777-korean-air-war-ground-object-and-campaign-update/yet, but so far my ground objects and terrain seem to be ok....even at the 08 patch level.
Read on!!!
I keep relatively clean installs of SF:P1 with either the 06 patch level and 08 patch level that I copy to create new modded installs. Note that I am not 100% sure how clean they are, so I should probably do a "from scratch install" to be sure...but be that as it may:
First attempt:
Took my clean 08 install (as I hadn't read THIS thread yet) and followed the instructions in the KAW readme from this mod:
http://combatace.com/files/file/1494-korean-air-war-complete-mod/Since there was an update which contained terrain here:
http://combatace.com/files/file/3329-korean-war-mod-update/I used the TERRAIN and CAMPAIGN files directly from the latter mod.
When it came the Weapons Pack, I was somewhat at a loss as the original mod was quite old, so I wasn't sure what weapons pack to use. I decided to go for the LATEST I could find, which was a Mirage Factory SFP_WOE Weapons pack circa 2012. (I can't find this version at CombatAce, so maybe it was really the 2009 one here:
http://combatace.com/files/file/8130-mirage-factory-weapons-pack-01252009/I then followed the rest of the KAW instructions.
Magically, everything worked!! The only issue was loadouts. MOST jets had what seemed to be period correct loadouts, but none of the aircraft had any tanks. I looked in the various .ini files and the tanks specified were NOT in the OBJECTS/WEAPONS folders.
For most jets, the loads were various types of 750 lb Bombs and 5" HVAR. In the .ini files, there were 500 lb bombs specified for many loadouts (STRIKE, ARMED RECON etc..). SOME jets had no stores available.
I did try using a Weapons Editor and loading/saving the Weapondata.ini to no avail.
Second attempt:
Same as the first, but instead of the MirageFactory Weapons pack, I used the Bunyap Weapons Pack from 2006:
http://combatace.com/files/file/2672-weapons-pack-03-jul-06/This also worked, and gave me a lot of additional weapons (though including many non-period weapons) and still no tanks.
Tried another Community Weapons pack:
http://combatace.com/files/file/7791-weapons-pack-252-by-the-wosfp1-community/Which didn't give me ANY stores, but I don't know if I opened the WEAPONDATA.ini
Third attempt and variants
Same as the first, but this time, after reading this thread, I used an 06 install rather than an 08 patch level.
Essentially the same results w/re to weapons packs, but I THINK the latest Mirage Factory pack didn't work (too new for the 06 patch??)
