I just don't see the point to a pistol that's as heavy as some carbines.

Nothing like leaning away from the gun as your about to fire... Too powerful a gun for what appears to be a first time shooter.

I'm a long time shooter and there's no way I would want to shoot that hand cannon.

I agree that gun was to big for her.

I almost learned the hard way about too much gun.
I was at a shooting range with my 357 magnum, which I had recently purchased.
I had been firing it one handed with 38's in the chamber.
I loaded it with Magnum loads to see the difference in kick.
All six chambers instead of just one. duh

I took aim at the target and pulled the trigger.
The kick caused my arm to fly up and pull the trigger again.
The second bullet hit the ceiling beam.
What I saw for the next couple of seconds made me laugh, to myself of course.
Shavings from the beam were floating from the ceiling to the ground.

I didn't feel as bad when I took a close look at the beam because "Mine" was not the only "hit" that the beam had sustained.
It was full of holes.
Actually all of the beams had holes in them from being hit.
I haven't fired it one handed since though.

I've been shooting guns since I was a little .22 short. Mostly rifles at first, but then my dad allowed me to shoot handguns. Everything from .22 LR to .45 ACP and in between. He had, and still does have, a nice S&W .357 magnum in a 4 inch barrel. Man, that thing would ring my doorbell. It was so LOUD. I couldn't hit anything with it, but I never had an experience like yours.

If that was truly the little Finnish girls first shooting experience, she's got some crappy friends. I have to admit, she hung in there, despite the punishment it dealt out. And for that she gets an A in my book.

She was definitely a trooper.
I can't tell if it was her friends or if she just went to the range and rented a gun.
I know you could rent one at the range where I went.

I have to take full blame for my incident.
I should have known better, it wasn't my first time shooting guns.

heh, well, if that was her first handgun experience, she's got a built in recipe for flinching!

I still flinch, to an extent, with handguns. I think it started when I was a kid, shooting those handguns without ear protection. We were dumb in those days, what can I say? Anyway, I was always excited about shooting, but when the time came to pull that trigger, I'd do just that. Pull. Not squeeze. I knew there was going to be some ear pain, but hey.

Tough habit to break. And today I have tinnitus. Wonder why, lol...

My dad has a .44 mag and a .41 mag, Rugers. They're loud and they kick like mules. And I can't hit anything with them. That Ruger grip is way too short for my hand, I feel like the thing is going to fly out of my grip.

No ear protection for me either for a long time.
It wasn't something that was really thought about until much later.

In that vein; I was out in the desert where I went shooting on several occasions.
The loudest noise I ever heard using a handgun was when I fired from inside a vehicle.
I had a little toyota pickup and I rolled down the window and shot my 9mm from the drivers seat out the passenger window.
My ears didn't stop ringing forever.
It was the last time I ever tried to recreate that action movie staple.

On an episode of Lock and Load on TV R. Lee Emory fired that S&W 500. They showed it in very slow motion, and you could see the shock wave from recoil going up his arm. Amazing.

But it is totally an ego pistol. Extremely limited use. Any time you were carrying that beast, you could have a carbine.

So I guess the magazine's writers decided to let her try some of what she did layouts about.

20mm, I have tinnitus too. Same reason too much shooting without ear protection. When I went in it was sissy to wear ear plugs. The old soldiers would say "you ain't gonna be wearing no ear plugs in combat". So lots of range firing without it. Then actual combat upped the ante. But they were right about not wearing them in combat.

I have it in both ears. Half way between a ring and a buzz. PITA.
